While Syria burns: Obama stands idly by and embarasses the nation
Jewish World Review ^ | 4/27/2012 | Charles Krauthammer

Posted on 04/27/2012 8:45:46 AM PDT by Former Fetus

Last year President Obama ordered U.S. intervention in Libya under the grand new doctrine of “Responsibility to Protect.” Moammar Gaddafi was threatening a massacre in Benghazi. To stand by and do nothing “would have been a betrayal of who we are,” explained the president.

In the year since, the government of Syria has more than threatened massacres. It has carried them out. Nothing hypothetical about the disappearances, executions, indiscriminate shelling of populated neighborhoods. More than 9,000 are dead.

Obama has said that we cannot stand idly by. And what has he done? Stand idly by.

Yes, we’ve imposed economic sanctions. But as with Iran, the economic squeeze has not altered the regime’s behavior. Monday’s announced travel and financial restrictions on those who use social media to track down dissidents is a pinprick. No Disney World trips for the chiefs of the Iranian and Syrian security agencies. And they might now have to park their money in Dubai instead of New York. That’ll stop ’em.

Obama’s other major announcement — at Washington’s Holocaust Museum, no less — was the creation of an Atrocities Prevention Board.

Embarasses the nation? I respect Krauthammer and I usually read his colums, but what is new about Obama embarassing the nation? Should I start a list? The first line will say something like "How do I embarass thee? Let me count the ways"

Hyper Liberal Krauthammer has worked
and continues to work for Romney and Obama
to destroy REAL CONSERVATIVES.

Krauthammer has long pushed for Obama
and when he started that, he lost all our respect.

The MSM is forgetful of all his embarrassing ways, but one thing they and everyone else have really forgot is the bond rating drop.

Krauthammer has been a shill for at least 20 years.

The last thing Israel needs is Syria in the hands of the Muslim Brotherhood.

What interests of the US are involved in the Syrian turmoil? That is a question none of the ‘pointers with alarm’ address. Mostly because there are none that are being adversely affected. If the current turmoil continues it distracts and disorganizes a US adversary in the region and makes Iranian penetration of Lebanon more problematic. The abrupt canceling of the first ever Iranian navy port call in Syria is a good example of Iran's discomfort over this situation. If the Syrian regime eventually falls it will be replaced with a weaker one racked with continuing major ethnic strife. The US interest would be to keep the pot boiling and try and assist each faction covertly so none could emerge victorious. Unfortunately real politic is considered to strong a dish for discussion in the press and talking head land. Instead every crisis or foreign policy issue is disguised in Aesopian Sunday School rhetoric emphasizing platitudes about right, virtue, and the American Way. No wonder so many US foreign policy initiatives go so awry.

I'm no Charles Krauthammer but I don't think two wrongs make a right.

Why should we arm the Islamist rebels? Some day those same arms will be turned on us. This is a no win situation for the US and we rightly should stay out of it. Whoever wins in Syria we will be singing meet the new boss, same as the old boss.

The Islamic radical rebels lost any possible support from me when they prevented Assad’s wife and children from leaving the country and proudly boasted that they couldn’t wait to butcher them. Were I Assad, that would have provoked me to wipe out every last vestige of resistance even if i had to kill half the population to do so. You don’t go after a guy’s wife and children.

Dear Mr. Krauthammer,

Please let me know where in the constitution we are given the power to be the world’s policeman.

“Obama stands idly by and embarasses the nation”

Awww, c’mon—he’s not being idle. He’s busy being the new American Idol by being cool on the Fallon show, singing at events, playing golf, and partying down in the white hut, and on vacations. How can anyone that “cool” be an embarrasment?

“....proudly boasted that they couldn’t wait to butcher them.”

.
Same language being used by muslims worldwide referring to Jews and Christians.

Thanks Former Fetus. Charles Krauthammer writing in Jewish World Review:

That merely puts Obama on the same page as more than a handful of FReepers, what a coincidence.
