Mitt Romney was not his first choice for president, but conservative political activist Scott Magill has come to accept that Romney is now his only choice. So Magill is looking for reasons to get jazzed about the candidate he once dismissed.
His list so far: Romney is a Republican who would sign into law legislation passed by a GOP-led House. Romney has started to hit the right talking points. If elected, Romney would have to listen to the conservative base - or risk its wrath at reelection time.
Also, and perhaps most important, Romney is not Barack Obama.
The conservative base appears to be warming to Romney, according to a Washington Post-ABC News poll conducted after Santorum's exit, which found that about 80 percent of conservative Republicans hold favorable views of Romney - a record percentage for the candidate.
Santorum's withdrawal from the field has opened the door for many groups that had been uncomfortable with his candidacy to embrace Romney, including the National Right to Life; the Susan B. Anthony List; National Organization for Marriage, which opposes same-sex marriage.

His governance in Mass. IS RELEVANT, because he led the politics of the left there during his whole term: Romneycare, coercion of free citizens to buy insurance or punishing them with a $2,000 fine, if they don’t obey his order, pro-abortion bill, coercing the Catholics to provide abortive pills and adoptions of children for gay couples, anti-gun bill, anti-business (increased the taxes by $700 million), pro-gay marriage even when the Mass. Supreme Court declared it UNCONSTITUTIONAL.
I don’t trust Romney, as he has NO conservative credentials WHATSOEVER.
As for the “R” attached to his name, in his own words “stands not for Republican, but for reformer”. If the GOP establishment supports a non-Republican candidate in 2012, that’s their problem, not mine.
In conscience, I cannot vote for a “reformer moderate with progressive views”, as Romney described himself, while seeking the place of governor. And he acted like one.
Is Romney a RINOlander,
Who caves-in to Debt-Decline?
Will he re-write Obamacare,
And propel us into financial hell?
Will Romney cast out REASON,
And join the Democrats lot?
Romneys past brings sparse hope to mind,
Of those that are TAXED ENOUGH ALREADY,
Of those who are not blind.
“Was Reagan elected governor of California? Is California conservative? But, I think we will all agree that Reagan influenced a growth in conservatism, even though he did liberal things as governor...”
Wow...learn some basic political history...or at least look it up before you spout off. CA pretty consistently voted Republican prior to 1992. The state as a whole is largely conservative ( by geography...not population) with the exception of the large metropolitan areas of SF and LA.
Comparing Reagan and to unprincipled SoS like Romney is laughable at best.
None of the above.
None of the above.
“Perhaps someone should explain to you that this is a conservative site.”
According to the poll:
“about 80 percent of conservative Republicans hold favorable views of Romney - a record percentage for the candidate. “
He stands for NOTHING, except he really does seem to like the homosexual agenda. He was pushing it on teens when he was governor.
Take your Romney cheerleading elsewhere. It will not fly on FR!!
You should probably avoid linking to Romney’s website for your arguments about how conservative he is. That kind of self inflicted wound will get you zotted pretty fast...and I am having way too much fun to cut this short. Ha ha ha
FReeped!
So-called conservatives will vote for Romney because they feel they have no choice or are unwilling or unable to write in a candidate, vote third party or stay home.
I dont know what I’m going to do, but one thing is sure: I will NOT vote for Romney
Are you kidding? It's because they want Romney to be the GOP candidate -- so bad they're salivating over the prospect -- because Romney won't have a prayer against Obama!
Posting made up numbers from the compost isn’t really helping your case...ha ha ha.
Maybe they were asking “severe conservatives”....ha ha.
By the way there is a pretty significant difference in a lot of “conservative Republicans” and conservatives.
Most are “conservative Republicans” now mirror their “conservative Democrat” cohorts...the Blue Dogs.
Some “Republicans” are proving they would vote for a candidate to the left of Hillary just because they have an R behind their name.
“Some Republicans are proving they would vote for a candidate to the left of Hillary just because they have an R behind their name.”
I should point out that Hillarycare would probably be to right of Romneycare. I’m pretty sure it didn’t have a tyrannical mandate in it.
The poll in question comes from ABC/Washington Compost- not a lot of credibility there.
My first priority is getting rid of Obama. That's all I have to say.
IBTZ!!
Wow. This thread looks like a Viking Kitty FEAST!
Thanks :)
“Gutless conservatives whore themselves out for Romney”
Gutless pseudo-conservatives whore themselves out for Romney.
Here, I’ve fixed it :)
Nice catch. Thanks
“voting for anyone with an R behind their name, knowing their record...makes that person a gutless lemming.”
Have you read this?
http://noprisoners49.wordpress.com/2012/04/19/an-open-letter-to-the-rnc/
“We do NOT want Mitt Romney or any other Country Club RINO as our candidate. The Democrat crossover voters who have helped bolster Romneys numbers thus far will not repeat their votes in November, and he will lose in the most spectacular fashion to Obama.
I do not hold any hope that the RNC will find its way back to the American public, and thus am looking forward to the emergence of a new Conservative Party to take your place.
After being a lifelong Registered Republican, it is with great regret that I request my name be with drawn from your list of supporters. I cannot continue to be associated with a political organization that ignores its own rules, much less the voice of The People.”
If the poll looked bad for Romney, you’d be touting the results. Regardless, the poll is more credible than a WND poll.
I think that conservatives are resentful of the fact that the Republican Party has, yet again, foisted a non-starter upon us. Romney is what he is. Edifying him as the “ideal” is equivalent to putting lipstick on a pig. We’re just stating the facts and were not happy with them!
“Now, what about that option of violent take over. There are maybe 2% here who would give up their comfortable lives for freedom. They will sit and complain as you do, but when it gets down to it, we are too comfortable with our lives to risk them...even if when we lost our freedom. So, our choice is clear...do we help the democrats remain in the Presidency out of moral outrage? Do you really think that one can equivocate the danger to us between Obama and Romney being President?”
What danger? Civil war, attempted coup by Obama, invasion by UN troops? All of the above? All if we don’t elect a man whose record shows that he is as dismal a choice as the current occupant of the White House?
“I minored in economics...learned enough to make millions of dollars investing because I understand economics and business. That is why I KNOW that we have not been suffering from inflation as most of the idiots here believe. Gold prices have moved up primarily from supply and demand factors unrelated to money supply. Indeed, our biggest economic threat the last few years was from deflation.”
Conservatism is not just about your stock portfolio. A sewer with a balanced budget is still a sewer.
“. Electing even a liberal Republican will remove that false hope and replace it with anger for liberalism in general, no matter which party. We have made great strides already, but we do not have the numbers yet and need to win over the hearts and minds of more.”
Nope. You win over hearts and minds by standing for something yourself, which Romney failed to do, and which, if the Republicans nominate Romney, they will fail to do. Admiral Sir John Fisher noted that “Moderation in war is imbecility” and the reverse of Clausewitz’ remark that “War is politics extended by other means” is also true, my point being that politics is essentially war. You cannot win by trying to combine with your enemy.
Nope. I don’t tout polls because I think they are all fixed to get certain results.
Not sure where you get your history from...both California state houses were controlled by the democrats for both of Reagan’s terms. But yes, California tended to vote Republican for President...but not much else...
http://www.presidentprofiles.com/Kennedy-Bush/Ronald-Reagan-Governor-of-california.html
During his tenure as Governor he called for some tax increases and backed off on some budget cuts...something that would probably make it impossible for people like you to vote for him today.
You may want to read this informative and entertaining article by Ann Coulter: http://www.anncoulter.com/columns/2012-03-21.html
No, Bullcrap.
Nicely done!
“Our” presidential candidate?
This is NOT a GOP site!!
“You should probably avoid linking to Romneys website for your arguments about how conservative he is. That kind of self inflicted wound will get you zotted pretty fast...and I am having way too much fun to cut this short. Ha ha ha”
Didn’t realize that would be that kind of offense...you sure about that? Glad you are having fun...but, do think about your position...take a fresh look. I know what you are saying and there would be many times where I would agree with you, but not this time. We HAVE to remove the democrat party from power at all levels...
Ok...I thought we had been through this before. Citing things like Romney’s website, the Washington Compost, and Bill Maher’s girlfriend and current Romney pimp...aren’t really helping your cause.
It’s ok if you support gun control, global warming, socialized healthcare, gay marriage, etc and you want to vote for Romney. Knock yourself out. Just don’t try to tell me he is a conservative and that I should vote for him.
Go do some Romney cheer leading on his site. You can brag about being an Econ minor and a “severe conservative”. They will love you over there.
Have fun!
Oh, PLEASE! The GOP does NOTHING conservative when they get into power. They only fight when they’re out of power.
Read post 102 from the owner of the site.
I had not read that, but I did have a call from the RNC on Thursday. I told them I would support our local and state conservative candidates, but that I would not give a dime to the RNC for fear that it might be used to support Romney.
The funny thing is that the caller said he agreed with me and he was very unhappy as well.
“I think that conservatives are resentful of the fact that the Republican Party has, yet again, foisted a non-starter upon us. Romney is what he is. Edifying him as the ideal is equivalent to putting lipstick on a pig. “
Romney says whatever his advisers tell him to say. He does not have a core value. In Puerto Rico, he changed his position on the English as first language to get votes. In Wisconsin, he used his fathers’ closure of a company in Michigan (won’t win Michigan in the fall) and opened in Wisconsin. In Alabama, he commented about grits. In Mississippi, he told them saying they are the best role model for the federal government. He said at CPAC that he is “severely conservative”, when in 2002 he was describing himself as a “moderate reformer with progressive views”...
Nice summary. Someone should put together a chart with the issues and a date of when Romney was for something and then another column of when he was against it.
“Listen, troll... stop pimping Socialist Willard on this website. Ya dig ?”
I love the behind the anonymity of the internet courage punk but, in reality...you would not even try...so why play tough with me?
“Also, and perhaps most important, Romney is not Barack Obama.”
He is only Obama-lite.
Romney is Obama’s dream nominee. This short video will give the GOP a flavor of how a debate might play out.
(”I Have Sworn Upon the Altar of God eternal hostility against every form of tyranny...”)
So did you make a special exception for tyranny in the form of mandates and socialized medicine? Ha ha
“(I Have Sworn Upon the Altar of God eternal hostility against every form of tyranny...)
So did you make a special exception for tyranny in the form of mandates and socialized medicine? Ha ha”
That oath does not preclude winning...I know how to and enjoy winning...I don’t think you are capable of looking past the first layer of things to understand that...which is why you do not see the wisdom in defeating the democrats. But truthfully, that is your problem, not mine.

Ok...so you are ok with mandates and other forms of tyranny as long as its an R behind it. Ha ha ha
I see wisdom in empowering conservatives....regardless of party affiliation.
Wanna bet, jackass ? I got bits of you vile little Slick Willardbots in my stool.
Wpin loves tyranny. Go look at his posts last year supporting the “Arab Spring” abomination. A pro-Mohammadan terrorist supporter of Socialist Willard. Amazing...

Thanks.
A couple of ideas that may spark your history lessons:
1.) Throw in a little physics: Newton has a law “For every action there is an equal and opposite reaction.”
2.) After 80 years, the opposite reaction of the Market system is finally strong enough in America to attempt to defeat Capitalism: State-Control vs Market Control.
3.) Remember the essays on radio, (your grandparents might remember), entitled: “ What America means to me?” These were written by grade school children. Have your classes do the same.
For High School children have 3 speeches/student: student, parents, grandparents. Recited by student, but written by each generation. Winner gets to lead the marching band onto the football field at halftime for the crowning of the Homecoming King and Queen. (I get all choked up just thinking about it!)
F that s.
‘Preciate the ideas!
You know I hear that argument all the time and I think it is total nonsense. First, I don't believe that Romney will be that much better: he will nominate liberal justices, engage in class warfare, continue to run up the national debt, support big government policies, tinker around the edges with entitlements, etc. Second, we will still have divided government, which will limit the damage that a second Obama term can do. Third, if you want to blame someone if Obama wins in November, try blaming the morons who voted for a weak RINO to be the nominee yet again.
Anyone living in reality can see that well have either Obama or Romney as president for the next four years.
No doubt, so what is your point? That I am now obligated to vote for that pandering phony because he has an "R" next to his name? I think Romney is an embarrassment, a pandering boob who will do or say anything if only to be the president. If that is the man that you want to be your leader, then you should vote for him. I won't.
As I said in a previous post: if you ONLY have a choice between hamburger and chicken, are you going to hold out and starve to death, because you will refuse to eat anything but filet mignon?
Chicken and hamburger? Is that what you call that pink slime? Just because the Republicans chose to serve up the some garbage doesn't mean I have to eat it.
As I have said before, given the choice between Romney and Obama I will choose none of the above.
