North Korea launched a three-stage rocket from a missile base near the west coast city of Sinuiju today, claiming that it was carrying a weather satellite of purely civilian use.

Its projected trajectory was almost due south on a course 150 miles east of Shanghai. The second stage of the rock was to splash down east of the Philippines, which prompted Manila to cancel northbound flights as a precaution.

Initial network news reports said the rocket failed during flight.

Your implication is such a missile must use its first stage and then some just to exit the atmosphere?

I'll bet it was the computer system.

You can only do so much with a 6502.

You just have to suspect where all those Commodore 64’s ended up. Maybe that’s why the garbage companies in the US are requiring us to recycle e-waste; it’s an upgrade in their supply chain.

"It failed? Someone is going to die for this."

What do you want to bet they tell the masses that it succeeded? With complete isolation from the outside world, they would have no way of knowing the difference. They want to appear strong to the people and able to take on the "evil imperialist Americans", so it's good propaganda to tell them they succeeded.

What’s interesting is that the new nork leader invited all kinds of media into his kingdom to witness the launch.
Usually, they don’t allow any media in case of a failure such as this. Don’t want the possibility of losing face.

ooops.

If you still have a Com 64, you should hold on to it — it could be quite valuable in a few decades. The Intel 4004 was a 4-bit microprocessor.

LOL. What a way to ruin grampa’s birthday! All the more reason to offset this fiasco with the 3rd nuclear test. The boy has bad karma. Every major initiative he pushed so far failed. The breakup of Kim Dynasty is getting closer. We may even see it before the end of this year. Fingers crossed.

The NorKo commies are unlucky that Clinton is not the prez now. He would have given them the missile technology they need.

Apparently first and second stages failed to separate according to S. Korean media. Rocket broke up in pieces, and SK military is trying to recover the wreckage.
