NEW YORK (Reuters) - In a move that threatens to further inflame concerns about the rationing of medical care, the nation's leading association of cancer physicians issued a list on Wednesday of five common tests and treatments that doctors should stop offering to cancer patients.
The list emerged from a two-year effort, similar to a project other medical specialties are undertaking, to identify procedures that do not help patients live longer or better or that may even be harmful, yet are routinely prescribed

A two-year effort, they say. I wonder when Obamacare’s first mental drafts were being thought up, before being committed to paper...
Somehow encouraging doctors to do less for cancer patients doesn't strike me as a positive developement, although the Obama-butt licking MSM will certainly present it that way.
Letting the old white folks rot is all part of the plan, along with destroying the nation's wealth, stripping its ability to defend itself and abolishing its traditional way of life.

(Why am I thinking of Pol Pot, here?)
.
That said, may the "finger test" be on the list of tests to be done away with!
And if you have been through some of that chemo and radiation treatment the idea of not doing another round is a blessing. If you think the disease is bad just wait til they try to kill you with the ‘cure’
I can’t believe that I didn’t comprehend the racial element to the reduced services to seniors!
You are exactly right on this because Blacks have a much shorter life expectancy. A far lower % of Blacks live to collect social security than Whites, so it would follow that Whites consume a proportionately larger % of medi-care dollars as well.
True I’ve watched a family member go thru chemo. It is horrible to watch I can’t imagine what it’s like to go through. But chemo and other treatments have meant that my relative is alive 7 years after being diagnosed with stage IV cancer....(But still can’t count out GOD’s DIVINE hand in the recovery!)
And I am still alive without another round of treatments. AFter I was promised they got it and it wouldn’t be back.... the docs were not correct ( not their fault they ain’t God). Because of how awful and sick I was last time I decided this time to not do the ‘treatment’. We handle pain. I have changed my diet. I still work. SOme days suck (true for everyone). I just get up and do what is in front of me.
I figure it is like in kindergarten when they passed out crayons..... you get what you get. Sw3ap em if you can. If not color away. I treasure each day in a way I didn’t think possible
I am a breast cancer survivor, 3 years now. About 3 mnths after my chemo, my doc said....well, if you had it to do all over again would you?
I said....you tried to kill me and it didn’t work. ;)
Exactly
. I treasure each day in a way I didnt think possible
What a wonderful attitude. Good luck and prayers for you.
I stopped giving any money or time to the cancer “industry” years ago. The reason? It’s all right here:

Thanks so much. I love it when people add their prayers. It is an interesting path. Don’t know that I would have chosen it but am glad I am on the journey. I consider myself to be vary blessed
I'm just connecting the dots.
interestingly, even the assumption that Blacks collect a lower percentage of SS is false. According to the latest census, Blacks constitute13.6% of the population and collect 33% of the SS.
That doesn’t sound right, but that is what my searc revealed.
I understand that and most likely would make the choice to forgo the round of chemo myself. But at least I want that to be MY choice and not an avenue locked out to me because of my demographic profile.
absolutely. I would never advocate that any one else follow in my path. It isn’t right for every situation. It is what I needed to do. I am grateful that I have a doc who is willing to work within the confines of what I as a patient am willing to do. Took me awhile to find one since so many refused to have me as a patient if I didn’t do “x”, “y”, or “z”.
