Both Santorum and Gingrich are conservatives with very high ACU ratings for their time in office.

I disagree. With a Rep. COngress Zero will accomplish nothing. ROmney, however, will be able to do a great deal of damage.

I wonder why he wants to be president - it sure isn’t because of the money

That's the question -- has anyone asked him (like that reporter who left Ted Kennedy stunned by that question)?

Maybe he has enough money to be bored with it. Maybe he just likes to be in charge. He appeals to states' right defending RomneyCare. As governor, he liked states' rights -- as president (long shot!), he'd probably prefer federal authority. He has (once that I recall) stated a preference for cities and towns deciding, rather than the states, but he didn't make an issue of it. In any case, the notion of individual liberty (at least for those who have less that $250 million) seems to be an utterly foreign concept to him.

I disagree with those who claim he's a socialist (though he's definitely a statist -- as long as he's in charge maybe). The only interest in income redistribution he's ever shown, to my knowledge, is his vaunted Bain experience (redistribute to Bain/himself) -- not the venture capital aspect, but the private equity, where apparently he looked to federal subsidies and the taxpayers picking up the tab for looted pension funds. There's probably good reason why his private equity colleagues are real unhappy with his run for president, because of the scrutiny it will bring to the area.

Of course, it's hard to say -- he lies so easily. Look at the blatant lies he told about Newt! Rush tried to defend it as always common in politics, but the examples he cited were simple name-calling, not outright barefaced lies. Look at his promise to the Log Cabin GOP to push gay marriage, his rush to enforce a court ruling that didn't have the force of law, and his two-faced rally for traditional marriage.

Some seem to think that because he's rich, a "successful businessman," he understands the economy. Would they have voted for those who ran Enron in its glory days because they "must understand the economy"?

Thanks for voting for Newt, Doug. Too bad you couldn’t be bothered to actually endorse him and campaign for him. He could have used your help in Florida and Haley Barbour’s help in Mississippi.

Romney is the latest version of what is shaping up to be a another chapter in the Republican history in the book of losers. Dole, McCain and now Romney. None of them had a chance with the exception of McCain who went off the reservation to pick Palin as VP. The media trashed Palin anyway they could because, unfettered, she was sure death to Democrats.

The Palin phobia trumpeted by the media panicked those Americans that have lost the ability to think for themselves. They can only take their news like pablum because their weak minds can’t digest anything more complex than that.

The voters will decide, Doug. Sorry you can’t accept that. It’s sad how, when a person such as yourself gets a little attention and publicity, he thinks he can decide everything for everyone.

Actually, there was a brief period when Newt was the front-runner in the national polls with 32 percent of respondents choosing him as their first choice and Romney getting something like 20 percent.

But that was just before Florida, and the two pre-Florida debates which Newt fumbled, staring into the camera like a deer into headlights while Mitt pummeled him with charges of “influence peddling”, charges which stuck Newt not so much with a “guilty” tag as a tag labeling him “no longer the debate king”, which killed him. Which killed him dead.

I cried (metaphorically) in the days the Newtster died... but die he did. And there’s no bringing him back.

For better or worse we’re stuck with Rick as the anti-Romney, and Rick is who I’ll be voting for when this circus campaign comes to NJ.

Oh, really... you mean this site is a campaign arm of Newt’s? You mean that when anybody gives money to support this web site, their money is being used to support Newt, kind-of like when a union member pays his dues and that dues money goes to pay for a political campaign that the union member doesn’t support? Like, like, like the teacher’s union supporting liberal democrats with teachers’ union dues but those teachers who hold a different political perspective have no say in how their dues money gets spent? Like that?

Giles sounds like a typical Newt supporter who bashes Santorum and bashes him some more instead of focusing on Romney. Then, when Romney does well, the Newt supporter, instead of backing Santorum who has the only chance of beating Romney at this point, continues to bash Santorum. After that, the Newt supporter then says, “Well, I don’t like Romney, but it’s time to start lining up behind him because it’s either him or Obama.” CNN had a Newt supporter on saying the same thing.

Honestly? There is enough decent difference from Obama to have to vote for Sketch. But he’s not going to govern as an actual conservative. We roll the dice with every first time president. But Santorum gives us at least double the chance of having a decent conservative with our values and who will remember he is there to represent us, and to appoint our kind of judges, than mitt.

Rick is always letting his mouth write a check his ass can’t cover. If he wins the nomination, I’ll vote for him, but he would be a disaster as Obama’s opponent.
