Lt. Col. Daniel L. Davis last month after
sharing his view on the Afghan war with some
members of Congress.
You can't spin the fact that more men are getting blown up every year, he said.

I know him. Please pray.

I see the fatally flawed ER system is still in use. This guy won’t go above full bird Colonel. if that.
Ask David Hackworth what speaking truth to the perfumed princes in the Pentagon will do. Oh wait, he’s dead. Never mind.

I see in the article where Danny says he agrees with your assertion and that he will be “nuked” yet his superiors say, he would not face adverse action.” We hope pray good will come of his actions.

Oh, to be sure, LTC. Davis will be dealt with by the brass. But it will be subtle. I hope he will not let up on his criticism. We need to get our troops out of there soon. If the rumors are true that the Administration is working towards talks with the Taliban ... well lets just say it reminds me of another war where we were still in combat against an enemy we were "negotiating with" and that didn't end so well either.
My hat is off to the LTC. And yes prayers for him as well.

They are making the same mistakes they made in Vietnam. Perhaps not completely, there are exceptions such as the weapons systems are better (M16 anyone?) and the right training (not sure about this but desert conditions are easier to simulate than jungle).
But the way the war is fought is all wrong. We’re back to not out-G-ing the G. We need to simply get the hell out of there.

I see in the article where Danny says he agrees with your assertion and that he will be nuked yet his superiors say, he would not face adverse action. He probably won't see "adverse action", in the sense of being demoted or assigned to be morale officer at some arctic base. However, neither is he likely to receive a sufficiently enthusiastic rating to get promoted any time soon, nor is he likely to be assigned to a command position.

(I'd agree with you, but then we would both be wrong.)
To: HokieMom
Yeah, I know him too. Sounds like you’re at MBC.
I too think Danny has followed the rules well enough—nor has he said anything very new or revealing such that the army would feel compelled to do anything formal against him.
Rather what will happen will be that he won’t be given anything to do. Most of the people that talk to him — will talk less and associate with him less.
He’s set to retire in any case in three years. So he’ll have plenty of time on his hands in the next couple years to prepare for his next career.

The horrible part is that the same thing went on in Vietnam. I saw instances of battles where we had our heads handed to us reported up the chain of command as victories. It's evident we've learned nothing in 40 years.

Mr. HokieMom (HokieDad) says the same thing. The mission is noble to kill the enemy and protect our nation. We want to do the best we can by our men and women in uniform. It appears we are failing them once again.

Incredible. If these top brass would have been around during the Battle of the Little Big Horn it would have been reported that Custer conquered the west.

I was also thinking about COL Hackworth as I read the article.

I'm personally a big Hackworth fan, but he was a very controversial figure, both among military personnel and I'm guessing FReepers as well.

There’s something about his name that I associate with Colonel Oliver North.
