And then there were three and a half minds left campaigning for the Republican presidential nomination: Mitt Romney, Newt Gingrich, Rick Santorum and Ron Paul.

Hosted by CNN's John King at the North Charleston Coliseum.
(Let's get rid of the half-brain somehow......can we, please???)
That's where a record comes in. Not just the record of votes, which is often a meaningless toll of positions taken for political reasons on bills that were always going to pass or were never going to pass, but a record of actions taken that actually mattered.
A record of actions taken that actually mattered. Newt is the man who fits that description to a "T".
He can identify what is most important to the country, develop a plan to overcome that challenge, articulate the the merits of overcoming the challenge and why the plan will work.
I hadn't been for Gingrich initially and spent plenty of energy excoriating him, these last several years, for any number of sins he committed against the Republican/Conservative ideals. He seemed a turncoat of sorts, particularly when he babysat Pelosi on the couch.
On reflection, Newt is an attention whore seeking relevancy for his ideas and I guess I take him at his word that he made a few mistakes in his life and he has at least some regret for those decisions. God knows I am no angel and so I have to reflect on the man's ability to get things done.
Newt gave us the Republican majority, the Contract with America and completed 2/3rds of his agenda while in office.
He now has a new plan for America and with what is likely to become a Congressional Super Majority and a Senate Majority, if not Super Majority, I believe he will absolutely accomplish his agenda.
Say goodbye to ObamaCare the single biggest scam and travesty foisted upon a free people who, by right, ought to have been given the opportunity to read the bill and debate it. Instead, a win at all cost, cheating agenda was developed and it was signed with most people never laying eyes on at least page 2 of this utopian dreck.
Executive Orders Positions:
The following are all within the executive powers to simply order and with the exception of securing the border within one year, they are all easily accomplished with the stroke of a pen and no way to challenge them in the legislature.
Keystone may be challenged in the courts but I think the Executive can order the EPA to approve, under National Security Priorities and it is a National Security issue, as well, a jobs issue.
As President, Newt, could actually have a very busy 1st week or month just on these initiative alone.
1. Eliminate the thirty-nine White House "Czar" positions created during the current administration. The president does not have the authority to appoint bureaucrats to power who are not accountable to the Congress.
2. "Mexico City Policy" of Respect for Life. Reauthorize President Ronald Reagan’s policy – also known as the "Mexico City Policy"— to stop tax payer dollars from being used to fund or promote abortions in foreign countries.
3. Restore conscience clause protections for Healthcare Workers. No American working in a medical environment should be forced to perform any procedure that he or she finds morally or ethically objectionable based on religious teaching. This protection should include, but not be limited to abortion. Existing conscience clause protections need to be strengthened.
4. Respect Each Sovereign Nation’s Choice of its Capital. Each sovereign nation, under international law and custom, may designate its own Capital. Accordingly, the U.S. State Department should be instructed to respect the choice of each sovereign nation and place the American embassy in their Capital. (Israel is the only country the United States discriminates against in this regard. The people of Israel have designated Jerusalem as their capital. Yet the United States retains its embassy in Tel Aviv.)
5. End the Attorney General's Assault on the States. Instruct the Attorney General to withdraw all immigration-related lawsuits against states immediately, including those pending in Arizona and South Carolina. The Obama Administration refuses to enforce federal immigration laws, and instead sues states who are merely trying to enforce the laws that the federal government neglects. The Gingrich Administration will secure the border by Jan. 1, 2014 by any means necessary.
Unleash American Energy by Approving the Keystone XL Pipeline. Instruct the State Department to approve a Presidential Permit immediately for the Keystone XL pipeline, a project that will send 700,000 barrels of oil a day from Great Plains and Southwestern states to Gulf Coast refineries lower staggering energy prices, and create up to 120,000 American jobs.
Now we get into the details of an inclusive agenda that brings the people(you and me), through their representatives, into process. The TEA Party and conservatives are going to have a majority in both houses.
Let’s elect an Executive who will absolutely fulfill the promise of our ideals.
Newt gave us the three most important victories of the 90’s Welfare Reform, Balanced Budget and Reduced Taxes. I hope I don’t need to describe the benefits of those victories. They ought to be obvious to everyone by now.
Lastly, there have been some reports that Newt shouldn’t get all the credit. Really? Then perhaps we marginalize the accomplishments of Washington, Roosevelt, Kennedy and ….wait for it… Reagan.
Do we really want to go down the road with that kind of adolescent sophistry and parsing of what happened?
Newt is the guy who thought of these big things, proposed them and shepherded their implementation?
Newt has once again identified what is important to us now, at this time and described how we can get there with our representative majorities. He has done it before and I declare Newt Gingrich was then and is Now a leader.
We should elect Newt Gingrich to the Presidency of the United States
Thanks for the link...and tonight, let’s hope that John King can keep his gasping, grunting, and other gutteral noises during the candidates responses to a minimum!
That last debate he hosted, he was a mess!
Meanwhile on MSNBC Jenny Sanford is making the rounds!
You’re giving Ron Paul too much credit.
Meh. I’ll support the nominee because they’re all better than Obama but the remaining candidates completely underwhelm me. They better use this debate to bash Obama and not each other. CNN, of course, will try for just the opposite.
I’ll go out on a limb and predict this is the final republican primary debate.
I don’t think Romney will agree to any more and I don’t think any media outlet will televise any without him.
What is she (Jenny) up to now?
I don’t know if Virginia allows write-ins for their Primary, but someone had the suggestion of voting for the Half-Brain since he’s on the ballot. That will keep those delegates from going to Romney.
Wish I had thought of that! :)
Prayers up for Newt Gingrich!
Here and ready.
When I heard this ex-wife thing, although its old news, I think its hurtful news. Newt's a mixed bag IMO. All this latest bad press on Gingrich the last month or so seemed like it took its toll. But now with this, I think he's in deep do-do. I think his our best shot at this point. But does wanting him to win mean that every word his ex-wife says is a lie?
God bless Perry. Hope his endorsement helps. Hope Gingrichs ex-wife doesnt Cain Gingrichs chances to death.
I like Palin and think she usually has a pretty accurate read on things, but this Gingrich ex-wife "open marriage," "they listen to what I say, they don't care what I do" thing? I'm not convinced it won't hurt him.
A word about the GOP.
I wonder how long the GOP has been a soft Liberal party. I believe Reagan stole the party back from the Liberals ("moderates") in 1980. Eisenhower allowed taxes and government to grow crazily in the 50's. How far back do you have to go? I think sometime in the late 1800's/early 1900's, America found itself without a political party that would put America and its Christian, traditional values first. I think ever since then the GOP has put its own interests and political perpetuation ahead of what's best for America.
The country has withstood an amazingly long period of time without sustained organizational and institutional support. May God Himself continue to bless and uphold America against her enemies, within and without, until He returns for His own.
Summary of what will occur at the debate tonight:
Ron Paul will act like the crazy old man he is, and we’ll have to endure more of it now that there’s only 4 men on stage. Will pick a fight with Santorum and Gingrich who will mop the floor with him one way or another while Romney will ignore him even if he brings up his name.
Santorum - Will be the primary attacker of Mitt Romney. He’s losing votes to Newt and might take him on depending on what kinds of policy-difference questions come up, but for the most part, Santorum will probably be concentrating power on Romney, while also devoting time to putting Paul in a straight-jacket.
Newt - Probably won’t take any bait at attacking Romney, will leave Santorum to do that. Will try to stay light hearted and such when Paul wants to pick a fight. And, of course, somewhere there will be that righteous indignation manufactured moment where he attacks the media and gets the loudest applause of the night. The strongest comment you may hear tonight on Romney is “Massachusetts moderate”.
Romney - Won’t take any bait. Will just defend his record. Newt is hoping Romney gets dragged into another fight with Santorum. Will smile creepily at Newt and Santorum when they are talking.
NEW DRINKING GAME RULES:
1. Newt says the word “fundamental, fundamentally”, bangs the podium with his fist, or gets loud cheers and applause
2. Santorum uses more than 3 I’s in one response or shakes his head in a followup response
3. Romney creepily smiles at the other candidates or fake laughs, mentions his hair
4. Paul says something batsh!t crazy
Please have 9-1-1 on speed dial as you will most likely need it.
I know what I WANT to see. What I am afraid of is that Newt won’t go all out and he’ll be too nice because of this mary ann crap. I just want him to be himself. Fingers crossed.
Romney doesn’t want any more debates because that’s Newt’s strength. Newt doesn’t hold up so well betwen debates. Hopefully a lot of people will get on-board with him now and that will change.
...as we wait for the debate...
LOLZ!!!! Three and a half minds! That was funny. Admin Mod, why did the title get changed? That was classic!
I’m sure Ron Paul will continue to be in the debates with Newt even if Romney’s a no show
"I would like to point out one thing about the Taliban. The Taliban used to be our allies when we were fighting the Russians. So Taliban are people who want their main goal is to keep foreigners off their land. Its the al-Qaeda you cant mix the two. The al-Qaeda want to come here to kill us. The Taliban just says, We dont want foreigners. We need to understand that, or we cant resolve this problem in the Middle East. We are going to spend a lot of lives and a lot of money for a long time to come."
Andrew McCarthy at NRO exposes Doctor Paul's idiocy here:
Everything in this statement is wrong. Everything. Lets start with the most basic point. The Taliban most certainly were not our allies when we were fighting the Russians. How could they have been, considering that the Taliban did not exist at the time of the Soviet invasion and occupation of Afghanistan?
It's worth clicking through to read the complete takedown. Here's one more snippet, though:
Contrary to Pauls offensive depiction of a ravenous, empire-building America ever on the prowl for the next military conquest, the Bush administration did not rush to war. As Ive pointed out before, in the weeks after 9/11, even after Congress authorized the use of military force, President Bush pointedly asked the Taliban to hand bin Laden and his organization over to the United States so that they could be tried bin Laden having been indicted years earlier by an American grand jury. The Taliban repeatedly refused. Our choice at that point was either to invade, overthrow the Taliban, and smash al-Qaeda, or to let it be known that the United States would tolerate a massive attack on our homeland. That was no choice at all...
Get ready to rumble, people!
Ugh, the toe-sucker.... but he’s right on. You know, during the Clintoon years I would have sworn that Morris was a Democrat. What happened to that?
I want balls out Newt tonight.
Take no prisoners.
I'll settle for a drink each time Romney flashes that creepy smile. That alone will have me passed out by the 11PM news.
So why is Newts wife coming out with all of this? and this happened when???? If it was sooooo important to her why did she not come out earlier???? MONEY....willard or obama is paying her off... If thats all they got..they must be desperate...
Thanks for the thread. This is going to be a huge event, hope CNN does not play got ya. Be back later after the debate, good luck to all.
I wish when Newt is introduced, the crowd would give him a standing ovation just for the heck of it.
She gave the same interview to Esquire Magazine in 2010 , IIRC . Nothing new .
Even if they do -- and they will -- Newt seems to perform his best under such circumstances.
Thanks. It was fun while it lasted :-)
Oh, dear. I didn’t realize that John King and his rutting pig sounds was moderating again. Unfortunate. But we’ll muddle through somehow.
“And then there were three and a half minds left campaigning for the Republican presidential nomination: Mitt Romney, Newt Gingrich, Rick Santorum and Ron Paul.”
Three and a half, huh? Well, let’s see. Mitt is and always has been of two minds, one thinking leftward thoughts and the other, smaller one, thinking rightward thoughts. Newt has one very well-tuned mind that definitely thinks rightward thoughts and only occasionally sputters. Santorum seems to have a mind that mostly thinks rightward, but isn’t as sharp as Newt’s. So, it must be that, according to your audit, Mitt has a mind and a half, which tends often to send him into flip-floppery (more often flopping left), Newt has a rightward and very sharp mind, and Santorum has rightish mind. That’s leaves nothing for Paul.
OK, I think I’ve got it.
I wish he’d thank Perry and get a standing ovation, first of several tonight.
It is time to unite against Obama.
Newt for me!
That too! Lots of applause for Newt!!
6 minutes until Newtclear launch. Wonder if o’really’s ratings will suffer tonight....
CNN had an “all Romney, all the time” pre-show. Talked about Newt’s personal life and how women don’t like him.
Then one of the imbeciles said Newt should apologize during the debate and say he’ll do better. What a bunch of morons.
Ready to R-U-M-B-L-E!
Jenny was commenting on the race on Hardball. Defended Newt on teh racial charges, brought up Tim Scott and Nikky Haley. Said that she has to consider personal failings in private life because there is a strong likelihood they will carry over to public life. Character matters.
Anyone able to get an internet livestream working yet?
kristinn, a half mind is a terrible thing to waste, no?
Greetings from Southern DE.
Morris worked for Trent Lott before the toon . clinton was running for reelection when the toe-sucking broke . Dems through him under the bus . Whatever .
Im already fixing to throw a rock at the TV, these commentators drive me cuckoo...
“commentators” gives them WAY too much credit....I think “babbling idiots” is far more descriptive.
