Poll shows Perry losing Texas, in third place

From Public Policy Polling, this is really bad news for Rick Perry -- although at this point it cannot be unexpected:

Rick Perry's Presidential campaign is doing about as bad in Texas now as it is everywhere else in the country. When PPP last polled the state in September he was at 49%, leading Mitt Romney by 39 points. Now Perry's support has declined by 31 points, leaving him in 3rd place at 18%. Mitt Romney at 24% and Newt Gingrich at 23% lead the way with Rick Santorum at 15%, Ron Paul at 12%, and Buddy Roemer at 0% rounding out the field behind Perry.

What might be most shocking on this poll is that Romney edges Perry 46-45 if Republican voters had to pick just between the two of them. When we asked that identical question four monhs ago Perry led Romney 72-18. There's been a 55 point shift in Romney's direction.

How is he incompetent, compared to other Governors. I suppose you could slice & dice any of the records to get the right spin but TX is in great shape. People I know are talking about moving to TX because of business opportunities and the fact their housing market is comparatively stable.

Sounds pretty competent to me.

Perry’s been done for a long time. I was astonished he didn’t withdraw. I guess he really wanted to help RINO Romney by splitting the vote. Either that or he really is as stupid as he comes across.

Perry was obviously considering withdrawing after Iowa with the whole reassessing his candidacy business, but somebody talked him into staying.

Honestly, Perry is not polling high enough to hurt anybody - if he leaves after South Carolina, his supporters will at most give Santorum and Gingrich a point or two. There just aren't enough to make a difference.

I think Perry has every right to stay in. The MSM is trying to brainwash you into thinking that South Carolina is the end-all of the GOP primaries, but it's not. Plus South Carolina is an open primary.

Only a fool thinks an open primary that benefits Romney is some kind of mandate on the GOP.

Perry is more stable than RP!!!

So is a house of cards.

You're not setting the bar real high here, are you?

Cheers!

How did we get here?

How did we get here? I'll tell you how. Just in the brief time since Reagan the education system became polluted plus the people, even here on FR, refuse to back honor anymore. Instead it's 'who' "sounds" the best.

Then you have idiots that gloat like one of the posters pinging the Perry list, wanting to 'know how they "feel" about this. Here's how we feel about it a-hole: you get the government you deserve and when things start getting really nasty (you ain't seen nothing yet), you & your family should be kicked back out in the street to confront the nightmare you have levied on all of us.

THAT's how we feel about it noobie a-hole

I’m amazed at the continuing concerted effort to get Perry out of this race. As Rush said, liberals will tell you who they’re afraid of.

You're sounding like a Paultard. No one's trying to "get Perry out of this race", and no one in their right mind is "afraid" of him.

He just hasn't closed the sale with most center-right voters. That's the simple long and short of it.

LOL! One thing for sure, these people have definitely united against all candidates except Newt. I've been blasted a hundred different ways for not agreeing with their strategy

But let me ask one question to all these movers and shakers, what if Perry and Santorum drop and Newt blows it. If he can't beat Romney with the other candidates still in, what makes you so sure he can by himself. Be careful what you wish for, it will be a very bright light on Newt if he's the only game in town. And our alternatives will be gone.

Perry won the debate last night...

Perry finally showed up to a debate, and you think he won because he did? LOL

Why is Rick Perry still running?

Huntsman was working for Romney and he dropped out in SC so that Romney could win. That means that the margin for Romney is expected to be razor thin.

The votes Perry takes from the other candidates will be crucial for a Romney victory. Romney needs Perry.

So, quite frankly, Santorum is our best hope to win.

LOCK AND LOAD. There is no other alternative to the absolute insanity gripping the country.

When a man of Rick Perry's caliber is denigrated and ridiculed, by so-called conservatives, it's over. There is no comparison in the field as far as experience and governing, yet there are those that want to put a man in that has been nothing but a legislator; because...well because he sounds good (sounds damn good). But THAT DOES NOT qualify a person for the Presidency.

Gingrich and his baggage and his little 'side' shenanigans and his LIBERAL stances, disqualify him for the highest position in the land...but hell, he sounds good.

Gingrich would be outstanding in a cabinet position but really, we, as a party, a party that at one time stood for principle and character are going to nominate either Romney (who btw OKey DOKIED pornography flooding the Marriot Hotel rooms in the 90's) or Gingrich, who has ... well everyone KNOWS what he has...

I'm a foreigner in my own land. Jesus...

Mitt will win big in Florida, that’s my prediction and I will tell you the reason. Snowbirds.... people that left their crappy states up north after they screwed them up and came down here to enjoy our beautiful beaches and weather. Those are the ones that will give Florida to Mittens. I’m sure some are just voting for anybody but Barry the Marxist Kenyan and they want to vote for whoever they think will beat him, but still, I blame the snowbirds mainly.
I’m voting for Newt, end of story.

I agree. I think Perry did very well last night and I could vote for him without holding my nose.

Like I said in another thread, if you lose your own state that should automatically disqualify you.
