COLUMBIA, S.C. — Rick Santorum pushed back Monday morning against a series of ads being run against him on his record on earmarks, labor issues and a vote he took in 2002 that would have forced states to let felons' voting rights be restored when they completed their sentences.
Mr. Santorum, a former senator from Pennsylvania, is demanding the felon charge be stricken from an ad being run by a political group backing former Massachusetts Gov. Mitt Romney, one of his opponents in the Republican presidential primary.

Yes, I think of that quote often. The thing is, it’s impossible to even know if you are breaking a law or not. Your mind literally cannot comprehend that much information. (Consider that the average person knows about 3,000 words in their native language, and 5,000 if they’re well educated, like say, a journalist).
In Colorado it’s a felony to say something negative/disparaging about the beef industry (there are laws in several state that are similar, known as “veggie Libel Laws”). After SB 510 (The food Safety Act), was passed I found out that it’s illegal to give a tomato (food)plant from one person to another, it’s considered smuggling. Also, until 2 years ago in my state it was illegal to collect rain water, but a businessman was charged and it was fought out, so now you can, if you get a license, but only a small amount (so many gallons).
Arguing in front of a child in this state is a Felony child abuse, also. The thing is, that people think there’s no laws being broken, because few people are charged. But once an agency/person wants to charge you, they look up every possible item they can charge you with. It’s not that you don’t commit felonies, it’s that you don’t know they are even there to begin with. The cops don’t even know them, they have to look them up.
I’m not saying people have to be worried someone will jump out and arrest them at every corner, I’m saying people need to wake up the that fact that as soon as people said it’s ok to take a Felon’s rights, (As in the Any Rand quote), the race was on to turn EVERYTHING into a felony. And that’s what people need to be concerned about. As soon as people say it’s ok for x class to be treated differently, everyone soon falls into an x class. Need more proof, look at hate crimes. Virtually anything can be construed as a hate crime, but it’s never used against people who commit a crime against a say middle class white man. But if someone else, say, a lesbian black woman, is the victim, it’s suddenly a hate crime, added on, with a more excessive punishment. That’s the goal, and I just think people NEED to understand that.
I lucked out last night and just happened to see him give a response to this issue at a townhall meeting.

I have had some people do some really horrible things to me, theft etc., in my life that at the time I really wished they would “get the chair” so to speak. But is I’ve matured, I realize that am sure that at some point in my life I’ve done things that may have really hurt people, too. That’s why I often think of the scripture about by what measure ye mete, it shall be measured unto you. I once read an article that talked about a religious leader who was stolen from out of his home by a “friend.” The man years later told of his theft ($20.00), and the religious leader forgave him, but didn’t give the person his wallet to hold, that’s for sure.
I have a big issue with “Christians” who want to force everyone to “be good.” Not only is it impossible, even the attempt to do so, is evil. The funny thing, is that they’re still focused on the mote, and ignoring the beam. Whatever someone has done wrong, or may do wrong (except murder, and maybe rape, which is right there with murder), forcing someone to be subject to you is worse. Why? Because that person may as well be dead if they can’t use their God Given agency to draw closer to him. I’m not saying people should have consequences, but prison is not only effective, it’s not a natural consequence, and doesn’t teach anyone anything. I’m drifting off topic now, but it’s in the same vein. I said it, because I agree with you 100% about the “conservative Christian” comment. Take care.

Yep. I saw recently that they were trying to add things to Lautenberg, which doesn’t even require a felony to take your gun rights. I don’t remember exactly what they were trying to add, but it was something like peeing in public. The felons were merely the first step to boil the frog. Soon it will be all misdemeanors, and then outright gun control. Sad to say, but give them an inch and they always, ALWAYS take a mile. My understanding is that your second refusal of Obammy Care Individual Mandate is an automatic FELONY. That is currently still in effect and coming at us fast.

I wish I had the time to give you a better response but suffice it to say, I agree with all you wrote.

This is about APPLYING for restoration. This is already the law in most states including SC and FL.
This is a bogus attack.
Think martha stewart retoring her rights rather than some murderer. Violent felons have a more difficult road to restoration of civil rights.
BTW this includes jury duty.
Considering the fact that Obammy "Care" is mandatory for everyone in the u.S. (unless you have a bammy waver) and most folks will not even put 2 + 2 together until well after they are "in violation."
I would say roughly half the firearm owners in the entire country would become "felons" in just a matter of a few months after the Individual Mandate goes into effect. Once you are in violation it is forever, even if you get square with the Obammy Care folks.
You will have a documented felony that the feds will point to as their reason to force you to disarm.
As far as enforcement for voting rights?
Well, registering as a donk will probably go a long way to that being overlooked...

The foxhole is here, the war is NOW, and we need a steely-eyed Patton at the helm.
Anyone who takes an objective look at Gingrich and Romney as candidates against Obama and his smear machine will come to the conclusion that Romney will have a tough time beating Obama, and Gingrich would be chewed up and spit out by a nasty campaign focused on his past, which, of course, it will be. Gingrich is a terrible National candidate who is thoroughly dislikeable. That might be OK within conservative circles but it is not with the majority of the electorate.

Gingrich is the kind of impetuous character that would be shot by his own troops.
What baffles me most, is why he would think this was something he had to clarify during the campaign season. When candidates point a political gun at their own heads and pull the trigger, I just watch in amazement.
I am not convinced that all felons need to lose their voting rights forever. If they have cleaned up their act, then I don’t have a problem with them voting. If they haven’t, or have been convicted several times, they shouldn’t be voting.
So you're saying that anyone who has examined Santorum's voting record and does not care for it, is part of the evil Republican "establishment". I don't think so.
You are only trying to shut up anyone who may have an opinion that is contrary to yours. Read his voting record and then try to convince yourself and the rest of us that Santorum is a true conservative. He is not.
