Seriously. That's easily the cheapest I've ever seen, and the first I really know of that doesn't require a class. IN a lot of states it's $60 to $80 or much more for the permit/background check, plus another $60+ for the required class.

Here in supposedly gun-friendly Texas, it's $140 just for the licensing fee, plus another $100 for the class! It costs more than twice as much to get a CCW permit here than it did back in North Carolina.

And you pay the $10 after you get approved for the permit, no approval, no cost.

I was surprised at the no class requirement, but my uncle (who lives in SD) thinks it is because most kids take hunter safety at 12. When he was in school, they offered it as a regular class at school. I know several schools in SD still have shooting sports teams.

You're forgetting the $10 for fingerprints and ~$15 ammunition. Then, of course, Texas takes 2 months (60 days!) to even get your permit out to you.

If you want to get it cheaper though (mine was ~$80) join the Guard: fees are gone, and I found a class for $55 in Garland!

But yea, Texas really needs to jump on this no-permit bandwagon. Soon.
