Santorum: Obama would 'destroy' Romney in November
CNN ^ | January 15, 2011 | Peter Hamby

Posted on 01/15/2012 5:30:14 PM PST by Clintonfatigued

- Rick Santorum delivered a stark warning to South Carolina voters Saturday, telling them Mitt Romney is a sure loser in November if he becomes the Republican presidential nominee.

"Don't buy all this baloney that we need a moderate to win," Santorum told about 200 people gathered at Tommy's Country Ham House in Greenville. "We need someone with strong core convictions who is going to appeal to the voters in the states we need to win and that's not him. That's us."

Santorum, a former Pennsylvania senator, has trained his fire on Romney at stop after stop as he campaigns across the Palmetto State ahead of the January 21 primary.

But his sharp criticisms seemed to carry a fresh sense of urgency Saturday.

"The establishment is trying to ram down the people of South Carolina's and everybody else's throat Gov. Romney, as if he is inevitable," Santorum said.

He said Barack Obama would "destroy" Romney in the general election because he does not represent a "bold and courageous" contrast to the president.

Santorum cited the Romney-designed Massachusetts health care plan, which was a model for Obama's plan, as an example.

"Why would we pick someone who has had a record that as a liberal governor of Massachusetts to lead our country at a time we need fundamental change?" he asked.

I’m a cradle Catholic myself. Some of the nonsense I hear about Catholicism from non-Catholics is, well, pure ignorance on their part. I just ignore it.

Under the present circumstances, where the United States is under attack from communists and Muslims inside of government as well as from foreign quarters, I suspect those differences between Americans really aren’t so important after all.

It took them awhile, but the left figured out how to beat Newt. It beat them on the government shutdown paid vacation. It drove his approval rating as speaker down into sub Bush levels, chased him out of the Speakership and demoralized him enough that he also left Congress. It doesn't matter whether the left's allegations were accurate. It matters whether they were effective or whether Newt was able to overcome them. He wasn't able to. Since the left started beating him Newt has periodically sucked up to various libs and liberal causes in that repeated RINO delusion that they'll cut him slack in the future. The historian needs to check that worked for McCain. He also has pushed big government and big business solutions to problems more conservatively solved with smaller, freer methods. Newt can't run on just part of his legacy any more than Romney can.

This primary is starting to look like a circular firing squad.

I’ll bet Obama is getting downright fat on popcorn these days...what WILL he do with all of that money he won’t have to spend for his re-election?

Every national election cycle, I analyze what the candicates say versus what their actual records.

I make my decision based on my research. This research indicates, to me, that Newt Gingrich can do the best job.

I don’t dislike anyone - but neither Perry, Santorum, nor Bachmann had the level of experience in both Federal and civilian areas that Gingrich has had.

He was a paid consultant and gave the government the advise not to do the bail outs.

What exactly did that turnip truck look like? I've never actually seen one. And are you OK after that fall?

The MSM is pushing Romney down our throats just look at the latest manipulative headlines:

“Evangelical leaders endorse Santorum, to Romney’s benefit4 hrs ago”

“If Romney wins South Carolina, he’s 95% likely to win Florida and Nevada too”

http://news.yahoo.com/elections/

The question is could Santorum destroy Obama?

ABR 2012!

“we DO NOT WANT moderates”

The political consultants all say that to win a candidate must appeal to the moderates.

But, moderates are basically idiots who haven’t any firm opinions. They are easily swayed by things like “Oh, a BLACK man for president. Now that is interesting!”

Reagan proved a conservative CAN win over moderates.

If it’s Obama vs mushy Romney, Obama will win by about one or two points. Romney just won’t attract enthusiasm or interest. He is a joke candidate, easily pillared as a fat cat dweeb.

We need a strong, emphatic candidate who will stand out and draw clear distinctions between Marxism and the American way.

See my tag.

“very rowdy, loud cat fight.”

Or it could be such a turn off that most people will zone out.

The Obama supporters lost their passion after he proved to be so incompetent.

Our side will hardly be enthusiastic.

A loud mouth can still be a bore.

If it is Mittens, it will be a bore fest.

“I would like that. sounds cool. Is there anyone here who would NOT like that? “

I agree that it would be appealing to be that rich, to own 15 houses and have money to invest and give away. Start businesses and help people. That would be a great goal.

My point is that the left will create an narrative of class warfare that will suck in “moderate” voters easily fooled by Marxist rhetoric. Obama will use envy and hatred of “the rich” to win.

The Presidential election challenger must be an alternative to the incumbant; the difference must be significant enough for the voter to justify voting against the incumbent.

The voter considers the challenger’s and the incumbants positions on issues relative to their own positions on those issues.

Is the “moderate” or “independent” voter a “single-issue” voter who will automatically vote for a candidate - no matter how bad they are on economic or foreign policy issues (like an Obama) - just because they support the homo agenda and abortion ? Voting for an incompetent or anti-American candidate like Obama, simply because he is liberal on “social issues”, makes this voter a “single-issue” voter. If moderates are single-issue voters then I will happily be a “single-issue” voter. Oh, wait - Santorum would actually be better than Obama on economic and foreign policy issues, so I’m not voting based on the “single-issue”, but I prefer Santorum to Obama based on their positions on every issue.

If the moderate voter is NOT a “single-issue” voter, and is considering all issues and thinking about the “net” of all positives and negatives they believe about the challenger - well, then there is no way that their concern for being able to legally kill children (their own or other people’s) in the womb would outweigh the positions of a conservative like Santorum for all OTHER issues. Santorum, who happens to be a social conservative, represents a clear departure from Obama’s failing administration for the “independent” voter in every other respect besides those two issues.

Methinks it really goes something like this: the far left has the Republican establishment (and those Republican voters who don’t realize the establishment is playing on their fears of “losing” to a Democrat) thinking that moderates are single-issue voters who consider the abortion issue more important than their own financial well-being, national security, illegitimate government control of their lives and every other issue of importance today - combined. In truth, the only voters who think this way ARE FAR LEFT voters. Those are the ones would would prefer to vote for Obama over - even if the economy was crashing and burning, even if America was going down the toilet in every way. Actual “moderate” voters would NEVER allow the homo agenda and abortion to force them to vote for 4 more years of a complete failure like Obama who would CLEARLY mean 4 more years of failure on an even grander scale.

While Republican hard-right conservatives might pause about voting for a moderate - moderate voters would not hesitate to vote for a conservative if the choice was that or an islamo-commie wannabee like Obama - who has run the economy into the ground and refuses to reverse ANYTHING he has done.

I guess we’re supposed to believe that Republicans are free to be against abortion themselves - but must understand that moderates will never vote for a President who is. While that may be true for some - it’s certainly not true of all. And as the U.S. economy continues to eliminate good-paying jobs, conservatives will only be in more demand by voters. Social conservatives will actually be heralded as exactly what we need by more and more people, as they come to realize that the government ponzi-bubble gets more painful for them personally every passing day.

This should be our message to the so-called RNC elite.

to Minn:
Sorry, that was suppose to be on another thread. Yes, I am supporting Newt. He will be releasing his income tax papers and other business documents this week. I am not concerned that he got paid from the government (as a consultant and to his firm). No one has showed any fraud, only Romney attack ads)

Santorum has almost no name recognition among the American public. Ask one to pronounce his name and you get, “Sanitorium,” “Sanitarium,” “Sanctimonius,” “Sanitation,” “Sagitarious” and etc. A recent Pew Research poll found among Republican and Republican-leaning voters, 76% knew that Gingrich was House speaker and 59% knew that Romney was governor of Massachusetts. How do we expect the rest of America to know who Santorum is?
