Russia has given Iran its bear hug and warns Israel and the West that an attack on Tehran would be considered an attack on Moscow. The threat heightens the prospect of World War III in the event of a military strike on Iran.
“Iran is our neighbor,” Russia's outgoing ambassador to NATO, Dmitry Rogozin, told reporters in Brussels. “And if Iran is involved in any military action, it’s a direct threat to our security.”

There may not be honor among thugs, but there is the prospect of alliances and mutual interests. What's strange is that Russia seems to siding with Iran against all Arab states, as well as Israel. Notice they said "Tehran", not Iran. Besides, this is little more than bluster and posturing. Do you actually believe that Russia would attack Israel if Israel attacked Iran. Not likely. At best they would elevate their level of bluster and rush to the UN to show their undying and ineffectual support of Tehran.
And remember, a majority of Persians despise the regime, and when the regime tumbles, they are going to remember who supported it.
Mutual assured self destruction has a way of ensuring peace as long as none of the parties have rogue operatives that would kill innocent people in a false flag operation to be blamed on others.

America and Israel are worried about Islamic extremists in Iran acquiring Nukes, yet, they show no concern over the fact that Islamic extremists in Pakistan have easy access to Nukes.

Why not point out there are factions in Iran (including a few mullahs in the Supreme Council - could be wrong about the name Supreme Council) who do not desire a nuclear Iran? Tell the truth (loudly and often) and point out these facts. The likelihood is these mullahs or factions in Iran could be pulling the trigger on their own scientists, as well as blowing up their missile sites. Personal thought is Pakistan could be helping in these explosions and assassinations. Of course Iran could fall into a full civil war. It would be terrible, if the facts came forward. Everyone in Iran would be in jeopardy, but isn't this already the case?
So... If I were president I would say... I feel ya Putin now you feel me.. Any act of terrorism supported by Iran will be considered a act of terrorism supports by Russia and all sanctions afford to Iran will be afforded to Russia. Any attack on anything made by Iran will be considered and act of war on the part of Russia...

At present Russian military might consist of paint over rust. Who benefits from raising the spectre of such an “axis of evil” alliance? What does it cost Russia to make such a blustery statement? What does it gain them?
Since when have Russians ever trusted anybody? My instincts tell me this is all political gamesmanship.
