ROBERT REICH: Get Ready For A Obama-Clinton Presidential Ticket

Robert Reich
Dec. 28, 2011, 7:08 PM

My political prediction for 2012 (based on absolutely no inside information): Hillary Clinton and Joe Biden swap places. Biden becomes Secretary of State — a position he’s apparently coveted for years. And Hillary Clinton, Vice President.

So the Democratic ticket for 2012 is Obama-Clinton.

Why do I say this? Because Obama needs to stir the passions and enthusiasms of a Democratic base that’s been disillusioned with his cave-ins to regressive Republicans. Hillary Clinton on the ticket can do that.

Moreover, the economy won’t be in superb shape in the months leading up to Election Day. Indeed, if the European debt crisis grows worse and if China’s economy continues to slow, there’s a better than even chance we’ll be back in a recession. Clinton would help deflect attention from the bad economy and put it on foreign policy, where she and Obama have shined.

The deal would also make Clinton the obvious Democratic presidential candidate in 2016 — offering the Democrats a shot at twelve (or more) years in the White House, something the Republicans had with Ronald Reagan and the first George Bush but which the Democrats haven’t had since FDR. Twelve years gives the party in power a chance to reshape the Supreme Court as well as put an indelible stamp on America.

According to the latest Gallup poll, the duo are this year’s most admired man and woman This marks the fourth consecutive win for Obama while Clinton has been the most admired woman in each of the last 10 years. She’a topped the list 16 times since 1993, exceeding the record held by former First Lady Eleanor Roosevelt, who topped the list 13 times.

Putting Hillary with Obama would change everything, including the dynamic of the GOP nominees.

Whoever gets the GOP nod would likely pick a VP someone with a strong military background- and someone who standard directly opposite of the Dumb and Dumber ticket.

Paging Mr. West... pick up the nearest courtesy phone.

I'm not a Newt supporter, but wow, could you imagine Newt/West vs. Dumb/Dumber???? The debates should be made PPV- and would likely get us out of debt fast!

As far as feminists are concerned if Hillary run as VP then Sarah should run as the Presidential candidate. A President far trumps a VP candidate for a feminist. Believe it or not, many a feminist was ready to vote for Sarah just because she is a strong woman.

Most of them I saw thought of Palin in the same way vampires reacted to sunlight.

Lately, I’ve been sensing that it’s pretty much a done deal that Obama will be president again. Hillary as his VP would seal it. The American people are okay with socialsim. The press is his cheerleader. Celebrities love the guy. This year watch the economy improve just enough to get him elected. There is no one on the rebublican side to ignite any passion in the electorate. Voters will stick with the devil they know.

Yes, it would, but it's a unicorn-pooping-skittles-over-the-rainbow dream. Ain't gonna happen by any stretch of the imagination. The Clintons and Obamas are practically mortal enemies.

If Sarah Palin were running, they might be scared enough to set their animosities aside and join forces, but I can't imagine them being desperate enough to do so, with the current slate of Republicans running.

Or something like that.

I can imagine she has a long way to go before becoming good at her job, and I can understand the other women resenting her position. Just like the ‘boss’s daughter’ being brought in and put at the top. Not fair to other workers.

‘Bout time to head off to bed devolve. Midnight for you.
