DECEMBER 12, 2011 Newt Is the Problem On health-care entitlements, Newt has moved left.
Newt Gingrichs rise to the top of the GOP polls is fueled, in part, by Republicans mistrust of Mitt Romney. Romneys signature Massachusetts health-care law, the model for Obamacare, leads many to wonder whether Romney can challenge the president on this most important domestic issue.
But any conservative who opposes Romney because of Romneycare should oppose Gingrich with thrice the intensity: Newt Gingrich is one of the principal abettors of the exploding health-care entitlement state we face today. Indeed, its not clear what would be worse for the cause of entitlement reform: Newts losing to Obama or Newts beating him.
I wouldnt switch my positions for political reasons, Gingrich recently told a South Carolina radio station, in an apparent attempt to draw a contrast between himself and Romney. And perhaps Newt is right. He doesnt change positions out of a considered desire to attune himself to public sentiment. Apparently he changes positions based on what he had for breakfast that morning.
On Monday, we would say were not going to give a $500 child tax credit to people who dont have tax liabilities, said Sen. Lindsey Graham (R., S.C.) to National Reviews Brian Bolduc. On Wednesday, hed meet with President Clinton, and that position would change. Newt has displayed egregious unreliability on the issues with the highest stakes.
As Bolduc recounts from the memoir of former speaker Denny Hastert (R., Ill.), In May 1997 . . . Newt declared the GOP willing to separate tax cuts from other items in a balanced-budget deal that we were negotiating with Bill Clinton. That was news to us and represented a huge change in policy in less than twenty-four hours.

Establishment Republicans for $200, Alex.
I certainly hope you are not using Chris Matthews as a standard of measure!
We both know that Noah Webster is rolling in his grave right now.
Noot isn’t a one eyed fatman; he’s a one trick socialist surrender pony.
What makes Newt unelectable. He is better at articulating the opposing vision of Obama (ie the majority views on almost every issue) than anyone else in the field. He also has a tremendous experience building a national majority. Yes, we know he has warts, but he has a lot of positives, too. If he can withstand the scrutiny through IA, NH, SC, and FL and takes the lead without any major problems, he will have demonstrated pretty good capability for the general election.
Your boy Ron Romney will never get it!
Noot’s a shot up the poop port.
You keep getting Noot’s first name wrong.
It’s a good thing you don’t get hay fever, the way you’re always hugging a strawman.
What makes Newt unelectable is his rubberized socialist, ‘mandate’ loving spine.
Mr. Gingrich is NOT endorsed by the establishment. Even Lindsay doesn’t like him. The New World Order types reject him. I am suspect as to your reasoning.
LOL... sure he can, sure he can. LOLOLOLOLOLOLOLOL
Better do some more surveying, editor, if that’s your real name, before you accuse others of your own sins - projection, as modern psychologists call it. In the meantime, good luck clipping shampoo coupons with your midget loudmouth congresswoman candidate.
The New World Order types love him.
Obama loves him because he destroys our biggest weapon: The healthcare mandate.
Yes. As well as Finney, Burnett, etc. Doesn’t mean we can’t arrest the decline and reverse it. That’s not something we can do with Gingrich... or Romney.
As President, Newt Gingrich will arrest the decline in America and reverse it. Go Newt!
You keep on swinging wildly and missing, Mr. Quixote.
Mental illness is so entertaining when you let it be.
As speaker, Newt Gingrich arrested the rise in America and reversed it. Go to hell Newt!
Well, for one I think the SC will whack Obamacare. I also believe Romney is a big mistake. I believe Gingrich is smart enough to put Obama in his place.
