Federal prosecutors want home run king Barry Bonds to spend the next few seasons in prison.
In court papers filed late Thursday, government lawyers urged a federal judge to sentence Bonds to 15 months in prison for his conviction of obstructing justice by providing evasive testimony to a federal grand jury probing the BALCO steroids scandal in December 2003. Prosecutors called Bonds' denials of ever using performance enhancing drugs "patently false."
"Bonds' actions were the product of a calculated plan to obfuscate and distract the grand jury from its role in getting to the truth in the BALCO inquiry," prosecutors wrote.

I am really amazed that there have not been massive protests in DC against the entire obama administration. IMHO there has been more than enough just cause.

Im no fan of Barry Bonds, but he didnt hurt anyone but himself. Hes not a threat to society.
I generally agree with that but...he provided false testimony to a grand jury. That's the crime in question, not the use of steroids. Our legal system requires that not lying while testifying under oath is essential, for obvious reasons. Anyone who perjures himself in a criminal trial or when providing testimony to a grand jury, should be prosecuted.

I’m not a fan either. Hell, I don’t even like baseball, but I agree with you 100%.
The time and money that have been wasted on this issue probably is mind boggling.

I think thats a Sports Entertainer versus Leader Of The Free World sort of thing. So it's okay if some folks lie in front of a grand jury, but others it's not?

Bonds didnt hurt anyone but himself. What about all the 26th (and 27th, 28th...) men who didn't make an MLB roster because they played by the rules and 8 or 9 (or more) of their teammates cheated with BALCO, led by poster boy Barry Bonds?

No, but the damage is much worse in one case, thus the greater fuss.

Not if we have to borrow money from our grandchildren to do it, which we are (or maybe we are up to our great grandchildren now).
