Gingrich Struggles With State Deadlines for Filing

Newt Gingrich is surging in the presidential polls, but his campaign organization has not caught up — making it possible he’ll miss Wednesday’s deadline to file enough signatures to even appear on Ohio’s primary ballot.

Mr. Gingrich, the former House speaker whose once-moribund presidential campaign has been resurrected in the polls in recent weeks, already missed the deadline for Missouri’s ballot. With several other state deadlines looming this month, his campaign is showing growing pains as it strives to meet them.

“We are going to give it our damnedest. We are going to do everything in our capacity to meet this deadline,” Gingrich spokesman R.C. Hammand said of the Ohio deadline.

ROTFLMAO. This is rich. This is supposedly the savior of our country. He is a total disaster. I hope some of you FREEPERS wake up and see him as he is. A big ego fraud who loves the idea of being President but won’t perform the work to get there. I could not be happier with this news. Come on let’s support Bachmann/Santorum ticket and stop this silliness with big government Republicans.

Years ago this would have been important. Now, once a certain candidate has established the presumption of inevitability, delegate totals become sort of meaningless. By convention time, it’s a coronation and publicity effort for the fall.

Add Virginia to the probably missed list.

Mitt joins you in your happiness.

But the last-minute nature of the effort stands in stark contrast to Mitt Romney’s well-oiled 50-state operation, which has been up and running for more than a year. Mr. Romney already had filed his Ohio signatures and has completed ballot-access requirements in Alabama, Vermont and Alaska well ahead of deadlines.

You people just won’t quit will you.

Newt chose, I repeat, chose not to file in a non-binding caucus in Missouri. Do we need to repeat that ten more times until you get it?

Regarding Ohio? Don’t know. First time I’ve heard about it.

Yeah, let’s support instead Bachman Turner Overdrive...cause that’s about as good as you’ll get with Bachman/Santorum...

ONce again, FR posts are either fantasy or reality.

Just checked this out. Unless I can’t read, it looks like the Ohio registration deadline is in February.

I personally think he’s helping the GOP install Romney. Michigan has already been presented to Romney with a bow on top after the elimination of Cain who was the only one who stood a chance here.

Newt slammers not concerned with facts, same as when they were non-stop Perry bashing under Palin or Paul or Cain banners.

Well, except that the Missouri thing was for the PRIMARY which is as meaningless as a straw poll, not the caucus which actually decides things for that state.

However, for Ohio, he better get on that.

:: already missed the deadline for Missouri’s ballot. ::

He should just do what the Dhimmicrats did in Wisconsin...find a judge to delay the review of signatures another week so the proper number of sigs can be submitted.

Can anyone explain Ohio’s 66 unpledged delegate allocation?

(i.e. 66 total delegates - 10 base at-large / 48 re: 16 congressional districts / 3 party / 5 bonus)

Delegate Selection: Winner-Take-All (by district and statewide)

What is the difference between pledged and unpledged? For examples both PA and OH are unpledged?

“OHIO: Republican delegate counts are based on the number of Republicans elected to the State Legislatures, Governors chairs, U.S. House seats, and U.S. Senators seats through 31 December 2011. Republican unpledged delegate counts are determined by state (or equivalent) party rules. We have assumed that the policies of 2008 will apply in 2012.”

Ohio primary is June 12th..

I don’t see this as very critical, since the race will have been over for months before Ohio votes.

Sounds like they're mocking Gingrich by recalling the "Joe-mentum" slogan from the failed Lieberman primary campaign of 2000.

I seem to remember Ohio being important in the Bush/Cain primary... maybe I’m mistaken.

In Indiana, Obama and Hillary forged and faked names.

They are reporting this on FOX News today.
