Operators of a U.S. drone lost flight control of it along Afghanistan's western border with Iran, according to a U.S. official with knowledge of the incident. The crew operating the unmanned drone reported a loss of flight control just before the drone went down. U.S. officials are aware of reports out of Iran that they shot down a U.S. RQ-170 Sentinel and believe this may be the drone the Iranians are talking about, according to this U.S. official.

Please tell me this is sarcasm. You do know what a drone is, right? The “pilot” is probably watching football in Nevada as we speak.

If we didn’t want the Iranians, Russians, Chinese, etc. to have the UAV, they would have found a smoking crater instead.

Those darn slots are a distraction.
“I think the more important issue - than possible stolen tech secrets is that Iran is stating in ITS papers that it perpetrated what would generally be considered an aggressive action against the US.”
I hope that the “official” versions of both sides are true.
Meaning that the damn thing went out of control and accidentally violated iranian airspace. Then it would be OK they blew it out of the air. No problem.
If we lose control of such a device, we lose control but we have enough other stuff in the air and space to locate it on it’s way across the border. We would have informed the iranian gouvernment somehow and apologized for the violation of their airspace and made this public.
This did not happen ! That means there are only two other scenarios remaining:
a) We delibrate violated their airspace, they blew it up. Scares me but doesn’t make me wonder
b) They captured the damn thing.
Scares me much more then a)
“The mullahs are, IMHO, planting the seeds for a defensive war propaganda-wise.”
As Senator Hiram Johnson (R) once said:
“The first casualty when war comes is truth”
I guess we’re already at a new cold war.
Well, daddy, I see you got the joke!
Yes. It was sarcasm. Yes, I know what a drone it. Yes. I know they’re flown remotely. I was trying at some humor.
Is it time for the Navy to smoke another Iranian airliner?
Hah! Saw right through that. He’s an Iranian!! See that habib on his head???? Can’t fool me. LOL
Let’s go get it.
Aljazeera says that elite IRGC hackers took over the drone
(which may or may not have been over Iran). This is the second or third one now so the IRGC team is a leg up.
It also means they can get Russian help dumping the ROM
and firmware. Not easy but it will get done with Putin sharing the bounty.
No one’s fault, just a determined foe.
Sorry fellas....some days you just can’t tell if people are joking or stupid. You’ve restored a tiny bit of my faith in humanity :)
LOL! I remember the day that photo was released. Wasn’t it Reuters?
When I go out on a date I’ll throw out something like that just to watch his reaction. I like to make outlandish statements that are so out of it that it couldn’t be taken seriously. I love my LOL moments.
