Politico's Martin Dodges Question On Cain Details
NewsBusters ^ | Mark Finkelstein

Posted on 10/31/2011 5:31:12 AM PDT by governsleastgovernsbest

Herman Cain has been taking heat for his response to questions about Politico's story on alleged sexual harassment. But today on Morning Joe, it was Politico's own Jonathan Martin, lead author of the story, who was being evasive about the details of the allegations against Cain.

Incredibly, when Willie Geist asked him to describe specifically what Politico is accusing Cain of having done, Martin hemmed, hawed then ultimately said "we're just not going to get into the details of exactly what happened with these women," beyond the sketchy generalities in the Politico story.

Has anyone asked and/or answered the question as to how this ended up in the hands of Politico?

Whenever Team Romney had rumors they wanted to start about other candidates, Jonathan Martin has been their go-to guy to get those rumors in writing in front of a national audience.

Diogenesis has highlighted the historical connection of TeamRomney with JournoLister Jonathan Martin.

There are Obama Rat trolls here on Free Republic masquerading as conservatives.

These trolls have a clear intent to bring down republican candidates who have risen in the polls. Obama Rat trolls should be identified and outted.

First with Bachman, then with Perry, now with Cain (and of course, always with Romney), the Obama Rats use a deceptively simple approach.

They camp out on a thread that seems to support a candidate, Cain for example.

They use one-liners and ad hominem insults to attack that candidate, while implying that they support another candidate, for instance, Perry. Then when one visits the Perry threads, that same poster rarely, if ever, appears. When he does, the appearance is luke warm, and mainly directed toward tearing down some other candidate. When challenged, the Obama Rat trolls avoid supporting the candidate they imply that they support.

In addition, the Obama Rats seem to use many of the same talking points, often referring to Mike Huckabee, or some other candidate from the past. They use virulent attacks on individual posters, who disagree with them, to try to drive that poster off the thread.

One need only research the history of comments from suspected Obama Rats to see the pattern.

Obviously, we each have different views on the candidates. Those differing views are worthy of debate.

However, unless a poster starts finding positive points with a candidate, any candidate, with as much vigor as he tears down other candidates, then he is just another shrill Obama Rat troll, not worthy of debate. He should be identified and outted.

Well well, what Cain was supposed to have done was not overtly sexual, but some female employees were upset. I've been around a number of female employees who have made OVERTLY!!! sexual remarks in public company at work , a number of which were disgusting, and nobody did anything about it. Because we took them for what they were, attempts at humor. Apparently though now, when a conservative Republican is involved, it is a capital offense with the accused, Cain, to be punished without trial or jury.

First off, after Clinton, any criticism about political figures and sexual gestures or behavior of any sort coming from the left is to be laughed off and rejected out of hand. Secondly, if we, conservatives, are at the point of rejecting candidates because they laughed at or made jokes concerning sex, then we are at the end of the movement.

If this did come from Romney’s camp, he may not ever get over the 25% support he now is stuck on. I would be hard pressed to vote for him if he wins the nominee. Heaven save us from Romney.

"non-issue"

Any criticism coming from the left about questionable sexual behavior concerning prospective candidates is now to be laughed off and rejected. They lost all their so-called moral authority (if they ever had any) when they stood behind the Philanderer-in-Chief. But their hypocrisy knows no bounds, so they are undoubtedly behind this attempt to smear Cain.

To 29 - It's a bit more than a "vague accusation" since we know a settlement had occurred. This doesn't imply guilt in any sense, but something did happen and Cain had better come 100pc clean as to what that something was. He aspires to be POTUS, so his usual 'it's not true, end of story' won't quite do.

Aside: Thomas Jefferson just ignored accusations printed or spoken about him, especially Callender's vile smears. Jefferson realized that by not refuting the lies that many might then believe these. He didn't care. He, his family and close friends knew the truth and that suited him just fine. Jefferson also never agreed to any monetary settlements with any of his accusers.

If Cain was inviting the women up to his hotel room in an after-hours sort of way and making suggestive comments, that the only physical content was, say, unwelcomed hugging, doesn’t remove it from sexual harassment territory.

The big question to me is how the Association could have made the payments while Cain is in charge—and Board members can say they were never told about it. If that were the case, that would be a major issue, I would think.

"Who was that Cain spokesman talking to Geraldo last night? He would not deny any settlement payments were ever made. Heard that this morning on Fox & Friends."

Did you ALSO see this on F&F?

Yes, Politico is comprised of such an upstanding, fair and honest bevvy of crack Lib reporters. I have occasional convos with jmartin@politico who is very open to taking constructive criticism.
Cain should be shaking in his boots and really should throw in the towel as a result of this smear. :-)

Laura I. is railing on Cain this am for his “choice” comment..trying to get Jim DeMint to agree. He wouldn’t bite, saying that verbal slips are easy to make.
What’s with her? I used to like her but she seems to be really veering off course lately.

Thanks for the link.

Those folks over at Politico must all be racist!

After all, any negative commentary on Barack is met with that allegation almost immediately.

The Democrats have a long history of digging up dirt on Republican candidates—Anita Hill in 1991, Larry Flynt in 1998 using information to blackmail Republican politicians, etc. It would be an obvious line of research to go to Cain’s previous associations and see if they could find anyone who had anything negative on him. The two women are quite likely Democrats who would be happy to see Cain destroyed, and happy to talk to liberal journalists looking for dirt.

From the original Politico hit job:

The women complained of sexually suggestive behavior by Cain that made them angry and uncomfortable, the sources said, and they signed agreements with the restaurant group that gave them financial payouts to leave the association. The agreements also included language that bars the women from talking about their departures.

How convenient. Someone talked. Who was it?
