NASHVILLE, Tenn.- The heavy Tennessee Highway Patrol presence and curfew enforcement on Legislative Plaza came to a sudden and unexpected stop Saturday night, and by Sunday morning, Occupy Nashville protesters declared it a victory on The Hill.
"At 4:30 in the morning, I walked around congratulating everybody that we took The Hill, said Clay Wright who proudly waved his Occupy Nashville flag on the steps of Legislative Plaza.
"The people, the people own Legislative Plaza, and that's the way it needs to be recognized," said Wright.
But a sign with a curfew enforcement states otherwise. Enforced since Thursday, it's put more than 50 Occupy protesters in handcuffs. Instead of taking the wind out of their sails, it's only unified the group more, even spawning new supporters like Randy Johnson and his daughter, Delaney.
*snip*
But the handcuffs and heavy Highway Patrol presence virtually disappeared Saturday night, and some wonder if it's gone for good because the Metro magistrate judge, Tom Nelson, couldn't find a legal reason to charge those arrested and refused to charge them.
Or they wonder if the Haslam administration is threatened by a new face taking the 'human mic,' the attorney for the American Civil Liberties Union.

This is much ado about nothing. The Nashville OWS is thirty people max and during the week when it is cold it is zero. The state legislature is not in session and there are no business arond the state capitol that can’t be arrived at by multiple routes.
This is a PR stunt and not a very good one.
‘Bout time for another 100 yr. rain (just enough flooding to “clean-up.”)
‘Bout time for another 100 yr. rain (just enough flooding to “clean-up.”)
Granted I don’t live in Nashville but the news coverage has shown more than 30 occupiers daily.
The weather hasn’t been cold until the past couple of days and I imagine the numbers will drop a bit now.
I have to say I’ve laughed at them for choosing Legislative Plaza for this since the legislature has been out of session for a while now. But then, those folks aren’t the brightest bulbs in the box.
The problem I have with these occupy protests is they’re setting a dangerous precedent. What happens next year when these vermin set up camps at polling stations to disrupt elections? Black Panthers already got away with intimidating people who were trying to vote in ‘08. Things could get a lot uglier next year.
Just my 2-cents worth.
After last year’s flood, I wouldn’t wish that to happen again - - not even on those vermin.
Now, a few inches of that sloppy wet snow NYC had............that’s a different story. :-)
I'd put the value of your post at far above 2-cents. Good post.
Thank you. Nice to know I’m not the only one who sees the possibility.
The state government dont meet after about June, so there is nobody there to protest against...
Just Jan-May or June each year...
However the Plaza has several War Memorials to our TN heroes..
so the OWS are polluting what amounts to “hollowed ground”
Time to get out the Rolling Thunder, I’d think. Occupy Polls is an Occupy too far.
Tennessee is the “Volunteer State” and I wouldn’t be surprised to see citizen posses and Tea Parties materialize in the face of the Occupunks.
As I recall, the legislature wrapped up business earlier than usual this year, so they haven’t been there for several months now. The occupiers may be too stupid to realize it. Wouldn’t surprise me in the least.
The thought of those filth anywhere near the war memorials sickens me.
I have the suspicion these protests are test runs for next year. They want to see how far they can push things.
What a heart-swelling sight it would be to see Rolling Thunder set up perimeters around the war memorials to keep the vermin from desecrating them!
It would be fun to see TEA partiers camp out in the same exact areas, and in much greater numbers. And those with CCW can, well, exercise that right.
I don’t recall the ACLU ever protecting Conservative demonstrations. Maybe they have, on occasion, for appearances sake.
I’m on your side, but couldn’t that be a set-up reminiscent of Altamonte, 1969? How disciplined are Rolling Thunder?
I think they’d be happy to cooperate with the wishes of the Tea Parties. This isn’t a loose cannon 1%er (pardon the pun) bike gang, ever coiled for a shooting match with a rival.
I can't recall the ACLU ever protecting Conservative anything.
The Occupiers have already pushed cops off their motorcycles. It isn’t a matter of being hair-trigger Hell’s Angels, but of being capable of not retaliating if attacked. It is pretty obvious that the Occupiers want an incident and will do whatever it takes to start one.
Rolling Thunder has a good rep and as I understand it, they are mostly vets. Still, it takes good discipline to maintain a cordon against a crazy mob.
show pictures of these obama supporters being violent.
