As a complex week full of discord looms, consider “President Reagan’s Favorite Macaroni and Cheese,” a recipe shared by “Mrs. Ronald Reagan, Washington, D.C., Wife of the President” in a spiral-bound community cookbook published by the American Cancer Society’s Northern Virginia division in 1983. I make mac and cheese in my rice cooker. Comes out great

2 cups elbow
1/2 cups chicken soup
salt & pepper
1 1/2 cups sharp cheddar
1/2 cup mozzarella
2 oz butter
dash nutmeg

It appears to be based on the famous baked macaroni & cheese served at Horn & Hardart’s, the automat, back in the ‘30s to the ‘50s. So Reagan.
