For Perry, A Rapid Fundraising Rise -- and Fall

Texas governor meeting Friday with Washington insiders after big fundraising dropoff.

By Reid Wilson and Peter Bell

Texas Gov. Rick Perry kicked off his presidential campaign with an aggressive fundraising schedule that quickly made him a front-runner for the Republican nomination. But reports his campaign filed with the Federal Election Commission show that his ability to attract big money fell off steeply in September—perhaps not coincidentally—at the same time a series of rocky debate performances threatened his early front-runner status.

As Perry arrives on Friday in Washington for a private meeting with K Street insiders, the question is whether he can convince the smart money that his campaign is worth an investment.

I love that Perry talked about de-funding that horrible and useless and expensive organization.

La Raza Rick's fall is similar to that of Howard Dean in 2004. Dean fell because of the 'Dean Scream'. La Raza Rick has fallen because he's a pro-ILLEGAL alien moron who called conservatives 'heartless' because they dared to disagree with him.

If the K Street insiders have last names that sound different, they might find Perry's campaign is worth an investment.

Otherwise, they're just heartless.

Owner of National Journal “likes to micromanage”

Politically, Bradley considers himself a centrist, although he has also described himself as “a neocon guy” who was “dead certain about the rightness” of invading Iraq. In the 2008 U.S. presidential primaries he donated $4,300 to Hillary Clinton and $2,300 to Barack Obama and to Mitt Romney.

Romnuts hit piece.

LOL. I wanted to say, that i appreciate your commentary about his pledge not to run, that so many have ignored or forgotten. I certainly have not. Thanks for that post!

Every Perry thread needs a shootin pic.

New at this? In October 2004, Dean had the lead. He’d already lost the first primary by the time of his scream.

Apples and oranges.

True. We are still at an earlier phase than the 04 Dem model. Perry could still pull this out (it horrifies me to say).

New at this?

No, but apparently you are.

I don’t care where Dean was in October of 2004.

The graph I posted is dated 2/4/2004 and it reflects Dean’s plummet that began after the scream which was 1/19/2004, or less than 1-month prior. Moreover, it is similar to the current graph highlighting La Raza Rick Perry’s fall the result of his calling conservatives 'heartless'. You might have curbed your attitude just long enough to notice that. Then again, maybe you’re just not bright enough to get it. Smart money's on the latter.

So you don’t see how October 2003 (NOT four, genius) is more comparable to October 2011 than it would be to February 2012?

I really hate to see all the vitriol when discussing candidates. I love me some Herman Cain, but he's a couple of really good gaffes from a complete flameout. And if that happens, and it comes down to Romney or Perry, a whole lot of people throwing bombs right now had better start singing

Oh Ricky you're so fine
you're so fine you blow my mind
Hey, Ricky!

You're a little late, Pan. Perry has already flamed out. He's polling in single digits in many states -- 2.9 in Florida. The Perry campaign is history.

Cain is polling ahead of Romney and at this point he is the only man standing between Romney and the Republican nomination. He needs our support or or we will have a Republican nominee named Mitt.

January 19, 2004 – Dean places third in the Iowa Caucus and delivers the infamous “Dean Scream” speech

AFTER the caucus where he finished THIRD. And the polls immediately beofre the Iowa caucus (which hasn’t happened for this election year yet) were accurate for the most part. He was ahead in the polls by miles there at this point in 2003.

IOW, your parallel holds if you consider Cain or Romney to be some GOP equivalent of Howard Dean.

I understand Pan, nor do I. But I've been attacked in this and other threads for simply posting Perry's record. It seems some just can't handle the fact that everyone does not support Rick Perry.

I know I am on solid ground with my views and I point to this as proof.

Cheers.

Yes, and this Romneybot’s goal was to have Rick Perry attacked on cue by non-Romney supporters. It worked here.

On the Texas campaign trail, gubernatorial candidate Perry told Texas voters over and over again.....if they reelected him governor, he would not run for president.

I don't think you'll find many Perry supporters who will make excuses for Perry going back on giving his word to Texas voters last year that he would complete his 4 year term if elected. That's one of the few things Perry supporters admit is wrong.

Mittens is the problem here.

Agreed. Perry is not in trouble - his biggest Texas backer is probably dumping millions into pro-Perry PACs as we speak, and I don't think PAC spending has to be reported until January. Mittens on the other hand...wonder where his money is coming from or if they are spooked and asking everybody to cough up the bucks.
