Herman Cain may be the front-runner in the polls but he is way, way behind in the funds.
Last night on Erin Burnett's show Cain revealed he only has a several hundred thousand dollars in the bank.
Yes, several hundred thousand.
"For the quarter, we will report, first of all, no debt. You see, I run this very tight, like a start-up business, because that's my nature as a businessman. And we are going to have -- we will report at the end of the quarter several hundred thousand dollars in cash on handled.
Within the last week or so, our fund-raising has really picked up a lot, because of the response of the public. And so, I don't know what that number is. I just know that it is going to be very, very respectable."
Compare that to Romney's $14 million or Perry's $18 million and regardless of how much fundraising picks up it is an enormous gap to bridge. Too enormous?

I plan to...before the first primary now that I’ve been alerted to when that is. Thanks.
We let McCain on the ticket - we let the GOP and beltway insiders make our decisions.
This year there is a new age dawning.
I will not be told who to vote for this election
I will not be told that a man like Herman Cain can't win
I will not be told that Americans can't take back their Country
This year I will not whine about the establishment GOP. This year I will work to get Herman Cain nominated and elected!
Hope springs eternal!
I just became a $100.00 monthly donor. It’s all I can afford. :(
LOL I like it.
My bank accounts are very low at the moment (daughter got married recently), but I just donated $9.99 and will do more in the future.
I saw this quote here on FR and it was attributed to Rome:
“Gold doesn’t necessarily get you good soldiers, but good soldiers will get you gold.”
My guess is that Herman Cain’s campaign is taking in “several hundred thousand dollars” a day at this point.
My wife is pregnant and diabetic. I have expenses here on the farm. I have less than $400 to my name, and that is for food/gas/emergencies.....one of those emergencies is sending Herman Cain $9.99
Sending him some today.
A friend of mine who’s a political consultant told me that they consider the mailing a success if it’s read in the time it takes to walk form the mailbox to the garbage can. They send multiple mailers because it’s all about the number of impressions (Eyes on the candidates name and photo)
Cain has nothing in the bag. A poll boomlet that doesn't equal a lot of cash is not very convincing. Who knows - Cain may win, but he certainly doesn't have anything in the bag. If our anti-Romney candidate turns out to be someone who can't raise much money or put together strong state organizations, then my guess is Romney the chameleon walks away with it.
I think just the opposite, I am imagining all news reports similar to the ones after the Florida straw poll expressing shock at how Herman Cain somehow pulled off a huge win with no organization and no money spent.
In the end all that matters is the votes.
Money is a means to an end, you spend money to help people get to know you and your positions on things and or your opponents positions of things.
But if they already know you and like you, and already know and like your positions, money really isn’t an issue.
Herman needs to boost his Internet presence, and he needs a paypal account. I hate giving my debit and credit card numbers on the Internet, even when the encryption is good.
Cain could start answering questions and creating 30 second sound bytes that explain his position on any and all issues and then people like us could share those videos out through facebook and google + . If he has a youtube channel, you can start sharing those videos now. This would actually be better than a $20 donation because it would be sharing the message through a personal network and not mass marketing.
Last night, the press started reporting that Romney was pushing for tariffs on China for their currency manipulation, when in truth Reid and Schumer already tacked it onto the trade bill for the Columbian and South Korea trade agreements.
The Democrats don’t want the blame for the fall out and Romney is more than willing to take the blame if it buys him union votes.
Donated yesterday!!
Go Cain!
That’s actually a feather in Herman’s cap in my view.
We are sick and tired of candidates like Obama who became multi-millionaires by sucking-up to special interests.
Much of the fervent support for Cain reminds me of the similar fervent support for Ross Perot and Fred Thompson — and we all know how that ended.
He’s doing well in the straw polls and some others, becaue the MSM is giving him constant face time on TV, mostly because they and the rest of the liberals fear Perry and don’t believe Cain or Romney can win over Obama anyway.
Cain may be the 2012 version of the 2008 Huckabee:
shoestring campaign, but stays in the race just long enough to muck things up for the conservatives and get the Republican Elites’ preferred guy nominated.
Yeh, back in 2008 Free Republic was out to destroy Huckabee so that Romney would win the nomination. You are upset that Huckabee didn't try to help Romney? Huckabee was twice as conservative as Romney ever pretended to be but all it took was for the fat drug addict to call Evangelicals ‘identity’ voters for all of FR to jump on board with Romney.
The same thing will happen this time. As soon as there is an opening, the fat drug addict will trash Cain. He is too smart to come out and directly endorse Romney but there is no doubt that he will do what he can to get him elected.
RE: but all it took was for the fat drug addict to call Evangelicals identity voters for all of FR to jump on board with Romney
Can anyone on this thread tell me who this ‘fat drug addict’ is?
