My son called a while ago from Camp Pendleton and told me about it. They don’t know anything but don’t think it’ll be on til tomorrow.

LOL! Well she did not miss much with his speech!

Yes the News said some parts have been restored, but many areas are still without power, and it’s now getting dark!

This thread reminds me:Warning to all if your energy (electric) bill company sends a letter to sign you up for a 25 dollar savings blah blah blah don’t do it.It gives permission for them to put a lock on your AC/furnace so they can chose when to shut you off to conserve by their definition.Ask any HVAC guy to dismantle it if you do.

“How well behaved is San Diego’s indigenous “urban shopping” population?”

I think they are all for redistribution of the wealth on their terms. They call it “social justice”.

If the cities are without power overnight, this will be an interesting test of the attitudes of 'Holder's people' in the new age of Obama and unenforced violence committed by minorities.

I grew up in Superior, AZ with evaporative coolers and screened porches for sleeping. The power (25 cycle) came from San Carlos Dam and outages of several days were common. The mine generated power from its gas fired smelter for reliable electricity. The water pipes were on the surface, so if you wanted a bath, you poured the water and waited for it to cool off.

I don't miss the old days. We live Oregon and SE Asia part time now and love air-conditioning.

Cause of Widespread Outage Under Investigation
APS Works to Restore Service to Customers in Yuma Area

September 8, 2011

PHOENIX – At approximately 3:30 pm today, the North Gila – Hassayampa 500 kV transmission line near Yuma, Ariz., tripped off line resulting in a major power outage across southwest Arizona and into Southern California. Among APS customers, approximately 56,000 lost service throughout Yuma, Somerton, San Luis and Gadsden. APS is in the process of restoring service to customers in these communities.

The outage appears to be related to a procedure an APS employee was carrying out in the North Gila substation, which is located northeast of Yuma. Operating and protection protocols typically would have isolated the resulting outage to the Yuma area. The reason that did not occur in this case will be the focal point of the investigation into the event, which already is under way.

“We are working hard to restore our customers as quickly and safely as possible,” said APS President and Chief Operating Officer Don Robinson. “We take great pride in our hard-earned reputation for safe and reliable service, and we will work hard to identify the cause.”

APS is Arizona’s largest and longest serving electric utility and serves more than 1.1 million customers in 11 of the state’s 15 counties. With headquarters in Phoenix, APS is the principal subsidiary of Pinnacle West Capital Corp. (NYSE: PNW)

Thoughts, but speculation at this point. Was thinking about that mystery “missile firing” off the SoCal Coast not too long ago.

All right, MestaMachine, there was no missle. The flash of light you saw in the sky was not a UFO. Swamp gas from a weather balloon was trapped in a thermal pocket and reflected the light from Venus.
