Federal Dole: A Vicious Circle Of Protection
IBD Editorials ^ | August 15, 2011 | PHYLLIS SCHLAFLY

USA Today published one of its colorful front pages last week detailing how America has not only grown dramatically in population over the last two decades, but has also radically changed ethnically, geographically and culturally. The most costly of the many changes is the fact that having children has become increasingly detached from marriage.

Illegitimate births for all Americans have risen from 26% in 1990 to 41% today "and could be headed higher." Among Hispanics, illegitimacy is 53%, among blacks it's 73% and among whites it has risen to a shocking 29%.

This extraordinary change is the primary reason that government budgets, both federal and state, are so bloated. Without fathers to provide for these millions of children, their mothers turn to "big brother government."

The economist Robert J. Samuelson recently concluded that, "the welfare state is winning the budget war." The bipartisan budget deal, which slashed our military budget but kept welfare-state handouts mostly off limits, turned out to be "a triumph of the welfare state over the Pentagon."

The Heritage Foundation reports that 77 types of federal means-tested handouts already cost $522 billion per year before Obama took office. He increased this giant amount to $697 billion per year in the first half of his term. Now half of Americans depend, in whole or in part, on government handouts for their living expenses, paid by the other half who pay income taxes.

During Obama's coronation, a bunch of people at work gathered in front of the TV to watch. The African-Americans were high throwing around high fives and trash talk. When the crowd in DC of mostly blacks starting singing "Na na na na.....GOODBYE!!" to GW Bush's helicopter while giving the finger, I turned in disgust to leave.

Just before I did, one of the maintenance workers said out loud: "It looks like over half the crowd there freezing on the Mall is mostly fat welfare mothers" - - you could have heard a pin drop.

I kept walking. But, everyone (even the blacks) knew he had a point.

This common-sense analysis was confirmed by British commentator Melanie Phillips, who described the current London riots as the result of "the promotion of lone parenthood;" "the willed removal" of fathers from the family unit by the welfare state; and the "ultra-feminist wreckers" of the traditional family with a male breadwinner. She calls for removing "the incentives to girls and women to have babies outside marriage" and for dismantling "the concept of entitlement" from the welfare state.

This is the fatal blindspot for those who reject social conservatism.

A collective moral ethos and reversal of the breakdown of the family is absolutely fundamental. Until this is addressed, any legislative and/or electoral victories will fleeting and inconsequential.

You can't polish a turd. A citizenry compised of a substantial amount stupid people who grow up to be sick in their hearts, minds and souls is nothing but a TURD that econocons will never be able to polish.

I’ll risk being labeled a raist for asking but why on earth do minorities have so many illegitimate children? Is it to milk
the USA teat or something more culture related? I guess in Africa one could blame lack of education for their raping young
virgins to cure their AIDs. On the street here maybe it’s “cool” to sire many kids and never look back and to get that notch in their creds.

Whatever it is, I know the minorities here have been pampered for far too long by democrats. Time for some tough love.

I will dare say it. Minority and other welfare recipients ARE pampered. Pampered by Democrats, but mostly the taxpayers, who have been paying their way for 30 some years.

I still don’t get how they get to call all the shots.

For years I have complained about abortions. Why should I pay for them? If a person wants one, pay for it yourself. If you chose to have a child out of wedlock you pay for that baby, not me. If you can’t take on the responsibility of raising a child, we taxpayers should be able to take the baby away & put it up for adoption or find foster parents for it’s care. No way should I be forced to pay out of my tax dollars a welfare family that keeps repeating itself with the next generation of children. YOU NEVER GET OFF THE DOLE. My husband & I raised 3 children & we both worked. All 3 got through college with md’s. There is no way they would go out & destroy another persons property or expect them to pay their way. I don’t owe these welfare people a dime. They owe me. It is time for them to get off their a$$ & pitch in.

I could envision the radical environmentalists/ZPG crowd using this as justification to introduce population control policies.

Not only do they have too many children, but why are they and their children so freaking fat? Aren't they poor?

Government opression is one of the fundamental root causes of poverty.

When a government confiscates wealth from the productive sector in order to cultivate and breeds a culture of dependent sociopaths (as ours does) this is a perfect example of government opression which will result in poverty.

PhaseII wil be the Obamacare opression

Because of what Phyllis mentions, what’s happening in England will happen here within a decade if drastic changes aren’t made, which is highly unlikely.

“Time for some tough love.”

BJ Clinton gave it to them with welfare reform; now while many children born into the permanent underclass are still illegitimate, they don’t have three or four siblings anymore. The black birthrate is much closer to that of whites now, and this has helped Hispanics pass them as our largest minority group.

The simple fact is that often young women in the underclass can’t envision themselves doing much of anything when they see high school drawing to an end, and the bastards are some sort of right of passage. The young men are just dupes.

Welfare reform became an issue when whites started breeding along the same lines; it is simply unaffordable to subsidize that behavior in a growing part of the population.

We need to return to a real belief in God and His rules for life.

Illegitimacy is easy to correct. Force the baby moms to marry. That can be loss of benefits, marriage bonuses paid out for the first two years of a genuine marriage, and criminalizing bastardy.

To answer your query as to the reason for their excessive weight:
They usually purchase highly-/over-processed foods, rarely purchase and/or eat a regular diet of lean meats, fruits, veggies and water. With the cash that is at their disposal, they frequent “Burger Biggie” [representative of all fast-food restaurants] & eat there instead of cooking a relatively low-fat meal for their families. Their kids are on the over-priced game stations till all hours of the day and night and they watch far too much television and paid cable channels for anyone’s good [read:electronic babysitters and sedentary lifestyles].

Of course there are those who do not fit this mold:
There are those among the welfare recipients who HAVE paid into the system at some point. Who DO eat a diet of high fiber, low fat meals with full integration of fruits and veggies on a daily basis. Who rarely go to the “Burger Biggie” as a habit and cook on a pretty regular basis. Their childrens’ time on the over-priced game stations are monitored and balanced with some form of exercise [at times, themselves included]. Parents are active in their childrens’ education, both within and outside of the school walls. But these parents recognize that this is an opportunity at a “Hand Up”, not a “Hand Out”.

... you asked ... Peace

Hi,
Who will you “force” them to marry? If the fathers of these children were interested in doing so, they probably would.

If a man wants you, he wants you. If you're nothing but a depository for his semen and a factory for his seed, then that's all you'll be. If he chooses you, then there's not much anyone can do to thwart that. Check the bible for many instances of the man seeing and then choosing his love, and what he was willing to do to gain her love/to marry her.
Same principle still in effect.
Jacob saw. Moses saw, etc. ... Even Adam saw.

I agree, something needs to be done about the illegitimate birth rate. We've got to find a way to breed self-esteem, self-worth and value in the children of America than what we see walking and breathing ... and breeding today.

Any suggestions? ...
