Rick Perry says he is definitely running
UPI ^ | 8-11-11

While Texas Gov. Rick Perry has made no formal announcement, he told Time magazine in an interview he wants to run for president.

"I mean I wouldn't be this far into the process. … The issue of, 'is this what I want to do?' was dealt with about 45 days ago in a conversation with my wife," Perry said. "Prior to that, no.

Being the president of the United States was not on my radar screen from the standpoint of something I wanted to do."

Perry added he has a "calmness" in his heart about running.

I’m voting against 0bama.

For the primary, I’ll cheer on who will have the best chance of defeating 0bama, and I believe Perry will be that person.

I also like the idea that some here have proposed, that she run for Kyl's Senate seat in Arizona. That would give her a broader political resume' in 2020 to run for the top job.

I like that idea as well.

Absolutely the only person I would vote for Romney over would be Huntsman, he should be a (d).

That being said Palin, Bachman, Cain, I’d vote for Ann Richards, (RIP) anyone other than Perry.

To much baggage

Oh without a doubt. From here on out it’s going to get VERY interesting but I do have a dilemma. The debate is on tonight as well as 5 pre-season NFL games. (DAMN you Rick Perry /sarcasm off)

She’s my preferred candidate, too.

Agreed on all counts. She will do the best for our effort to promote candidates where she will do the most good. She is also quite comfortable being a FOX News contributor/analyst. She will be able to pick her time and life style without all the stress and hassle of running a failing country.

That needs to be left up to only the most skilled executives with decades of actual high level experience. Especially this time around.

“He has real Reagan potential.”

If you are talking electoral blowout potential, yes.

Ideologically? Where? He is OK, especially by comparison with the default politicians of today, but there are no signs of the intellect, determination or persuasiveness that Reagan brought to conservatism. Perry’s focus probably would be domestic which we desperately need right now, whereas Reagan’s principal focus was on the Cold War, otherwise achieving Reagan like stature is unlikely. Perry would probably enjoy Republican majorities in both houses of Congress too, which Reagan never had and which was utterly squandered when we did achieve it.

We will see. If Perry is in fact rolling in I expect him to win both the primary and the general.

Who said these two were the normal politicans? My guess is to give Palin a few more years to raise her family, travel, build up the conservative base and increase the family fortune. No need to hurry on her part is there?

“None in the field is perfect, but when you compare the field now with what we had this time in 2007 - we are light years better off.”

THAT, sir, is for DAMN sure! Last time around was more like a wake than an election. Ugh!

Do you have TIVO or DVR? Why not just record it. My Dish Network DVR is so easy to use, and I can watch what I want while it is recording.

If you have never used one before and have one, I would be glad to explain how to use it. (Super easy)

Hallelujah! A Christian, Air Force Veteran and Governor from Texas! Does it get any better?

Sounds a lot like GW Bush. So YES it can be a lot better.

I personally think she could overcome those negatives, but I also think that she has to be thinking about them as she considers her options.

Kyl’s seat is a good option. I’d rather see her as VP, but she would sure do good work in the Senate. And the irony of her being Junior Senator under her crab-ass, RINO “mentor”...

“And not only that, his name recognition is only about 60%. He has real Reagan potential.”

He absolutely does. And I saw another article about how Gov. Perry would compete against Obama in California, of all places, and, as someone said, if Obama has to defend California, he’s really in trouble.

Wouldn't that make a few mouths drop open, especially here?
Actually, I think they'd get over it pretty quickly (except for a few die-hards).

That's the Power of Palin.

We’ll see how it goes. Perry has a lot of critics right here on FR. Some legitimate concerns and some just plain nut jobs.

As far as prosperity in Texas has gone, he has been a good governor, and he has stood up to the Dims when they tried to push him around.

If Sarah announces, all bets are off for me, though. :)

She keeps her date hoping and waiting, waiting and hoping, when she finally comes down the stairs after about an hour, the date gets all excited only for her to announce that she just can't go to the Prom. Her Mom, Dad and Brother don't want her to, and she REALLY can't go against what they want you know. And the desperate date becomes even more infatuated with her as a result. But in this case, there are bound to be some really ticked-off voters.

I agree. I made a similar comment in another thread.

Why should the coach put a player in for the last play of the game when that player has asked to be kept out of the game?

In other words, don’t go to the game, planning to be a bench warmer and then expect the coach to let you play the last call of the game. jmo

Do you really think Sarah would do that to all the ground troops working for her in Ohio and everywhere in America, with their own money, if she does not run? If it is the case then she is not who we think she is - that would be brutal for so many people. Either she is running or she is done, does not matter who she endorses. Too many people, including me, would be very upset and so disappointed. Kind of a let down thing. Big time. I am sure she is running. She is too much of a great lady to do that to so many people. I hope I am right...
