Rick Perry says he is definitely running
UPI ^ | 8-11-11

Posted on 08/11/2011 1:00:19 PM PDT by STARWISE

While Texas Gov. Rick Perry has made no formal announcement, he told Time magazine in an interview he wants to run for president.

"I mean I wouldn't be this far into the process. … The issue of, 'is this what I want to do?' was dealt with about 45 days ago in a conversation with my wife," Perry said. "Prior to that, no.

Being the president of the United States was not on my radar screen from the standpoint of something I wanted to do."

Perry added he has a "calmness" in his heart about running.

Fl is not in play for dems. Better vp choice would be rob portman from wisc, no nonsense guy from a state the dems cannot afford to lose. Former businessman who created real jobs. I would love for rubio to be picked, but not because there are any worries about fl.

Serious question.

WHY is Perry a "RINO?"

Facts only, please. I want to look at all the evidence on either side and make the decision for myself, and you seem adamantly opposed to Perry where others are not.

I think Sarah is a patriot who is not in this for the ego stroke like a lot of politicians are. She has a fulfilling life without being a candidate for president. It would be so within her character to milk the attention and build up the big announcement and then go into Iowa and say...

“I’ve decided to cast my full support to the candidate with the best chance of beating Barack Obama in 2012 and that candidate is...”

Perry/ Rubio= Landslide!

Actually, Perry / Rubio would be an inspired choice.

Perry's a very reasonable and sane politician with a good track record. He won't excite conservatives, but all in all, independents will probably not find anything overly unpalatable about him. I have a hard time getting excited for or annoyed with Perry, which is probably a pretty good sign for his general election chances. Obama just has this weird energy that was interesting to the country in 2008, but the novelty has long since worn off. A more conventional politician who has proven reasonably competent at running a large state will tower over Obama.

Rubio's a rising star with some excitement behind him. Not so much as to scare independents, but enough to excite conservatives. A solid conservative who can divert a good fraction of the Hispanic vote will pay dividends now and in the future. If we could groom Rubio for 2020, this could be quite an epic coup for us.

I didn’t vote for Arnold...actually didn’t/haven’t vote for any democrat or republican, even though I’m well over 18. I will vote for most republicans in this election, as I can’t take Obama anymore and I know the next president will pick two court justices. Which is critical!

My standard of not voting for a republican is like my standard with women...haha...I’ll vote to the right as long as they’re not crazy and they have a decent head on their shoulders. McCain, no...Romney, borderline no. Perry, I’ll vote for. I have no illusions about it, he’s not a true blood conservative, but he leans right. He has the fundamental philosophy I have...so I’m sure we’ll disagree, but nothing remotely as bad as Obama and I.

That’s a b**ch that needs to be tossed to the curb. ; p

just saying that a perry is probably most folks 5 or 6th choice...

I don't want to be disagreeable, but based on all of the recent polls, he seems to be the first choice of more people than Palin, Bachmann, Paul, etc, and the second choice of a lot of the people supporting those others. He doesn't appear to be 5th or 6th for many people.

Can we just give the guy a chance to see what he’s got. We’ll know in due time if he’s got the stuff or not.

WHY is Perry a "RINO?"

Because as a 3 term governor of Texas, he has not land mined the borders and profiled and shot illegals on sight.

Hey, Mister. Men can be crazy too. :)

Perry says a lot; but doesn’t do much. He’s in a good position for himself. He can take all the credit without being committed. We need to unelect RINOS; not elect them. The only reason Perry was re elected was White was such a crook and liberal. So far Palin is the only one I have seen who is closest to being conservative.

If we continue to elect RINOS we should just hand over the country; because we continue to have the mess we are in.

Rob Portman is from Ohio. Paul Ryan is from Wisconsin.

I’m not saying Arnold is moderate...he’s a liberal, but has some republican leanings...mostly fiscal in nature. But to say Perry is just like him...nah. I read about Arnold all the time. People sort of mirror their congress. Arnold is to the left obviously and Perry is a right leaner in a state that may eventually end-up like California.

Unfortunately the demographics seem to incline that future.

Unfortunately, we will find out what he doesn’t have if he is elected.

Perry says a lot; but doesn’t do much.

That's good, I don't want a President to do anything but get the hell out of the way.

Well well. Things are finally starting to get interesting. The famously unflappable Mitt Romney just broke into a cold sweat. I’d look for Perry to widen a lead over Romney in all the polls within 4-6 weeks. If Palin jumps in too, Romney and all the rest of the pack will quickly fade in the rearview mirror, making it a two person horse race. The two of them in debates would elevate the conversation and we’d be a better nation for it. If Palin doesn’t get in, she may endorse Perry early on, clearing the field and giving us a lot of time to build a mighty whirlwind to sweep not only the Obamessiah, but a considerable portion of his Congressional minions, into the dustbin of history.
