DETROIT -- For 2011, General Motors' return to electric-powered vehicles has been a sellout success, the U.S. automaker said Monday.
GM said the production run for 2011 was set at 4,488 for the hybrid Chevrolet Volt and they've all been sold.
Through June, GM had sold 3,071 Volts, while Nissan had sold 3,894 Leafs.
GM, meanwhile, has increased its production schedule to 16,000 for 2011 and plans to make 60,000 in 2012. Eventually, GM plans to make 100,000 Volts per year.

Wow, such impressive numbers. LOL.
Sad part is how much this lemon cost the taxpayers.
The taxslaves likely paid at least $100K per copy. That is a DC success story.
Pray for America
Hmmm....
Dec 2010 - 326
Jan - 321
Feb - 281
Mar - 608
Apr - 493
May - 481
Jun - 561
That totals 3,071...so matches the article. So how do we get to 4,488?
Jul - 1,417?!?!?
How did they triple their avg sales in July? Sell all the dealer demos? Give GM execs bonus money, earmarked to buy a Volt and skew the number? Are they counting committments from NYC and other misguided cities to purchase these as ‘sales’.
They’ve sold every one of them, huh? So there should be no 2011 Volt on a dealer lot anywhere in the country right now. GM jst had a public offering. Providing questionable sales data, which could influence stock price, used to be considered a no-no.
Edsel sold 68,000 in it’s first year, and that was 1958!
I only drive 5 miles to get to work.
Can anyone out there comment on how the reduction in gas cost compares to the increase in electric bill?
This would be the main point for me to buy this golf car just to get to work.
And how much is the car?
If you can afford a Volt, you can probably afford the upcoming Obama electric utility costs to charge it up each night. Change you’d better believe in.
I just read an article put out by GM...125 units for training at there facility and a whopping 550 held by Dealers as Demos. It didn't mention anything about Obambi Fed. purchases, probably under threat not to do so.
Living is So. Cal, Car Mecca and one of the few areas to be able to purchase one, I have seen exactly one.
State and Local agencies too. We just found out our local PUD is the proud owner of a new Volt, when it showed up to demonstrate how well the new charging station the State of Washington just built works (with Federal “stimulus” money, of course). It turns out to be the only Volt in the whole County, but at least they can keep it charged (also on the public dime).
Madness.
Interesting, since according to the Wa. Examiner (as of March, 2011) there were 9200 left to sell. Someone’s numbers aren't accurate.
Novem, ber 11, 2010 - Today, General Electric (GE) offered details about its committment to encourage the widespread adoption of all-electric vehicles. The company plans to walk the walk with a purchase of 25,000 electric vehicles by 2015, including an order for 12,000 Chevy Volt vehicles in 2011 from General Motors (GM), a GE business partner.
Well-to-do car collectors account for at least one month’s worth of these 1st year sales. 2nd year will have no such buyers.
L U C E N T
You just gotta laugh. They SOLD OUT! Yet they only produced 4,000 and then went on furlough. And GE is set to buy 25,000 electric cars through 2015? Supposedly they’ve already bought and leased out 12,000 Volts(in 2011) to electric company employees so they can gather ‘research’ through OnStar and their ‘customer service centers’ in Detroit and Eden Prairie, Minn. And GE also has the contract for the “Watt Stations”. Wonder how much all that cost us?
Only in Washington does liberal math make sense.
My thoughts as I saw one on a GM lot last week that no one even shot a passing glance.
Does anyone remember the article about it costs $81,000 to produce a Chevy Volt, but they sell for around $45,000. I guess that business model works as long as the gubermit is supporting you
How many of these Government Motors boondoggles were bought by government agencies?
