Reid: Would consider entitlement cuts in big deal
July 12, 2011
WASHINGTONSenate Majority Leader Harry Reid says he would consider cuts to Medicare, Medicaid and Social Security if they were part of a "grand bargain' that includes tax increases.
Tweet Be the first to Tweet this!.ShareThis .Reid defined a "grand bargain" as a plan that reduces future deficits by $4 trillion, the number used by President Barack Obama. Republican leaders oppose tax increases, so negotiators are focusing on more modest proposals.
Reid has resisted cuts to the major benefit programs, and previously said that Social Security should not be part of deficit reduction talks. He did not specifically say he would support cuts to benefits, but a plan that reduces future deficits by $4 trillion would almost certainly include some benefit reductions.

Amazing how it never occurs to any of them to just STOP SPENDING Money. Yet because of them I have to cut back!
The way the Rats would work on this is claim they don’t have enough time for the entitlement reform so it would come later then never pass it.
How does that song go, "too little to late to fall (for it) again..."?
It's a toss up as to who has lost it more, Dingy Harry or Nancy Pelosi.
Both need to retire due to lack of brain function.
Hey Harry. We’ll agree to raise taxes if you reduce federal salaries by the exact same amount. Share some pain. You need 2.7 Trillion to kick this issue past the next election fine. You freeze all federal spending at current levels minus the salary reductions and guess what - the deficit rises at a relatively manageable pace. But when your Congress spends more than the entire federal government before you, then you’ve decided you’ve got the black platinum card when you really have a debit card and your card has been declined.
No vacations. No fact finding trips. No first class flights or jumping aboard Air Force jets. You drive or fly coach like everyone else. You are below the people, not above them. We pay for you, you don’t pay for us. You want to prance out at this awe shucks small town man - well small town people realize that they don’t know everything and they know who SHOULD have the power and it isn’t the elitists in DC. Go home. Get some roots. Stop spending as if you’re Paris Hilton on a bad closet day. You are not rich anymore. You’ve spent our rich country into the poor house and now you’re broke.
Rant off / Sorry.
” Amazing how it never occurs to any of them to just STOP SPENDING Money.”
They CAN’T!!!!
THE ONLY WAY THEY CAN WIN ELECTIONS IS TO ENOUGH VOTES FROM LEECHES.

HEY,
You obviously have NEVER had an all expense credit card pal.
They can become addictive.
Just ask your local politician/
All Harry needs to do is tell his “good friend” McConnell what he wants. McConnell will give a token bleat in protest... then, he`ll predictably surrender.
The legacy Senate GOPers are far too chummy with the enemy to be trusted to hold the line.
There is no reason for Republicans to agree to any tax hike. There is no good reason for Republicans to agree to anything during this term.

“krauthammer said tonight that obama won the PR war”. So who says krauts opinion on that is worth anything? Don’t we have 3 weeks to go ‘til August 2? why is the PR war over now?
“Harry Reid says he would consider cuts to Medicare, Medicaid and Social Security”
Put it on paper, how much you’ll cut and in what year, and make it public, Dipstick. Otherwise, keep your lying mouth shut.

Yes, that is how Boehner appears to me too. And McConnell too. But I think the PR battle, as kraut puts it, is ongoing. It seems clear that a government shutdown is the endgame of this PR battle, and inevitable because the Democrats insist on it. So both sides could be jockying for position during the shutdown, and the PR battle will be re-joined. The real political pros know that Obama and his advisors are Alinskyites through and through, and the Alinsky method of political operation - revolution, counter-revolution, and reaction - make the shutdown entirely predictable. They are attempting to frame the shutdown as a result of the Republicans refusal to accept these reasonable revenue enhancements - on the rich, of course,- while the democrats are trying to set themselves up to look like the ones acting in the interest of of the middle class.
Obama probably did win the PR war, but sometimes the fight has to go on...unfortunately, the lead GOPhers just don`t have the courage. And, damn it, they actually had me believing at long last..THIS would be different.
I hope this causes an insurrection within the GOP. Party Unity? Screw them!!
I can’t add a thing to that fine rant! Well done!
