Caught on Tape: Graphic Dashcam Video at Center of TBI Investigation (Tennessee)

Dashboard cameras are supposed to help protect police officers and sheriff's deputies from groundless complaints, but a graphic dash cam video obtained by FOX17 NEWS has some Humphreys County lawmen at the center of a TBI investigation. It was January 23 on the outskirts of Waverly when sheriff's deputies roll up to a house on Bearcat Lane. It started otu peacefully enough, with authorities questioning 35 year old Darrin Ring on the left and 2 other men who say they live next door to the home, but the peace was quickly shattered. 3 Humphreys County sheriff's deputies converge on Ring and take him down. You can hear them telling Ring to settle down before deputies repeatedly hit and kicked him.

"In the course of about 14 minutes they removed his clothing so he was laying naked in the snow," says District Public Defender Jake Lockert. "Cuffed his hands in front of him, pepper sprayed him, tazed him multiple times, beat him with steel asps and kicked him into the ribs until the point they punctured a lung."

The sheriff's deputies were eventually joined by 2 Waverly police officers who were backing them up. The Waverly officers have tazer guns. Lockert, a former state prosecutor, says it's the worst case of excessive force he's ever seen.

"Our client was in a no win situation," says Lockert. "If he obeys the officers' commands and tries to comply, he's kicked and beaten and tazed. If he doesn't move, he's hit and beaten and tazed."

Lockert says Darrin Ring was drunk but committed no crime. He says his client was charged with Assaulting an Officer and Resisting Arrest to cover up what he contends is the real crime. Jake Lockert will be in court July 20 asking for all charges against Darrin Ring to be dropped, and Ring is considering a civil lawsuit. The sheriff's department didn't comment Thursday. The officers involved remain on the job pending the TBI's investigation.

It’s a blast. I get goosebumps thinking about it.

The cops of today are just thugs with badges. The correct term is, 'goon'.

Back in the day [when I was still carrying a badge and gun], I read a lot of posts in a on-line forum of fellow officers.

The ones that got the most attention were the cops from the N.E. and how they demanded special attention and treatment.

Typical complaint went like this. - A cop on vacation from DC, Philly, Newark, NYC, Boston [You decide] is headed to Florida for vacation.

Cruising along far too fast, he is pulled over in Virginia or North Carolina.

Uniformed officer approaches the speeder, only to observe the window coming down, the badge and credential case being draped over the glass, and the window going back up, locking the badge in place. In essence saying - Leave me alone, I'm a cop, too!

This used to happen so often, the officers just got into the habit of making an immediate call for a supervisor to respond while the officer stood there waiting for the window to come down, so he could politely ask for Driver's license and proof of registration.

I had a short stint in Internal Affairs and got to see this same type of arrogance close up.

Goon is too nice of a word for them.

The cops both knew that the in dash camera was running. The uniforms knew not to get into a conversation that escalated.

With the arrival of a supervisor and often more backup, an appropriate action was taken - Initial ticket, failure to obey lawful request, on and on.

Some times these N.E. badboys found themselves on the way to see a judge, just to remind them what state they were in at the time, and that they had no authority what so ever outside their respective districts.

I was “fined” by a Kansas cop

That was not a fine, just a thugs way of padding his meager pay check.

You are lucky ... lucky you have not killed some innocent bystander or other innocent driver panicked by your chase scene, or hit some kid along the road. You may think you’re a real badass driver, but you cannot see over a hill or around a corner at every juncture. Stop being a threat to your fellow travelers.

At no point in any of those escapes was I not in complete control of my vehicle, and there was never any "chase" as in a police car anywhere in sight behind me. You assume way too much, know way too little, yet you spout like a flatulent windbag anyway. Go stuff it, loser.

Come on Megan, “not so trusting anymore?” Any decent lawyer will tell you that for your own safety and wellbeing, you should never trust, or even communicate with any law enforcement officer beyond providing them with your name, and your driving documents should you be pulled over. Their training isn’t to protect you, it’s to find some reason to incarcerate you. You may end up with a traffic ticket, but nothing more unless you willingly give them additional information they can use against you Not a day goes buy that there are not multiple articles on FR about police corruption. They are nothing more than uniformed union members who have been given guns.

You know, pucker, all the cute religious pictures and quaint quotes of scripture posted on your profile page won't fool anyone as long as you continue to make petulant, snotty, judgemental posts like this. The average reader will see right through that phony, plastiscene Catholic veneer of pious, hypocritical religiosity to the truly venal scumbag so poorly concealed right under the oh-so-thin (and rather tacky) surface.

Chomp.

This case, and far too many others like it, are why I never even consider stopping for the cops. If I see the lights go on, I just nail the gas and take a circuitous route home. I've never been caught, and the felons with badges are just plain damn lucky they've never caught me. :^|

You better be careful or you're going to end up live on CNN. What a thread that would be!

"If you haven’t been reading about it, you should. I would never want to live in Tennessee after reading about those incidents."

Tennessee isn't perfect, but I think it is still one of the best places in the country to live.

But it is still a (mostly) free country, move to New York City or DC, if you prefer.

What will happen is that American law enforcement will be seen by the public as a danger rather than a help. The public will stop trusting and cooperating and respecting them. It is American good will and our civil society that was born of the constitution that is the difference between us and a banana republic. The law won’t mean anything to anyone because it does mean nothing if the cops and courts are corrupt.

As the unions have managed to protect thug cops from prosecution for their crimes, bad cops are going to get more and more brazen and corrupt. When that happens, you eventually get mexico. Obama has armed the cartels and opened the borders to trucking and walkins to help.

At least it wouldn't be the 35 mph "White Bronco" tedium we sat through with O.J. You'll know it's me when you see my radio antenna dragging laundry as I go through back yards at 120!

Just kidding.

By far and away, you get "Freeper Profile Page of the Decade."

I just thoroughly enjoyed a solid 30 minutes reading your profile page... a couple things I read twice... Johnny Cash's "This Ragged Old Flag" in particular. Exceptional.

Finishing with that study of the Muslim devils was exquisite, both in content and placement on the page. It's the one a visitor should leave with the taste of most bitter in his mouth.

All in all, exultant, celebratory, cautionary, and a deserved good read. Thank you!

FReep on FReepin on.
