I was raised in a household where we didn't even say "shut up" to each other! My Mother hated that term - it sounded mean to her so we were told to "hush" lol
That has always been my mindset too - I never told my children to shut up - we don't yell, we don't call names - it just isn't our style. I've been married almost 27 years and can count on one hand the number of times we've had any sort of "argument" that even led to slightly raised voices. ;^)

I think my mom handled most infractions with what I call “the look.” I don’t recall her (or any of us) using the language I hear in the Anthony family. But then, I’m older than dirt, and this is a different time.
