Churches speaking out against Alabama immigration law

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. (AP) - Some church groups are speaking out against Alabama's new law against illegal immigration, which they say violates Christian principles.

Leaders of the United Methodist Church, the Episcopal Church, the Lutheran Church and the Roman Catholic Church have all criticized the law as running counter to the Bible's teaching about loving others. Episcopal Bishop Henry N. Parsley of Birmingham calls its passage "a sad moment for our state."

The state's largest denomination, the Alabama Baptist Convention, hasn't taken a position publicly. But the latest edition of its widely read state newspaper, The Alabama Baptist, includes a front-page story that features Hispanic worries about the new law.

The Nevada-based Mormons issued a statement saying they are worried about tough state immigration statutes the day after Alabama Gov. Robert Bentley signed the law.

Wow, this will result in an ACLU lawsuit. Or Americans United for the Separation of Christians from Speech. Or the SPLC. Or someone, right?

What part of Scripture do these posers cite as a basis for objection to this law? Where did Jesus say it was OK to disrespect the borders, laws and sovereignty of a foreign country?

If these a$$clowns love the illegals so much then they need to help the Mexicans, Guatamalans, and etc. to improve their own countries to the point where Mexico, Guatamala, and etc. have immigration problems.

Given the nation's poor state of morals and biblical knowledge, preachers would do better spending their time studying and preaching the Word of God and less time in politics.

And that includes preachers on BOTH sides of the ideological divide.

BS about Christian principles. Bible clearly states to obey the laws of the land! Since when is enabling others to go against the laws considered love? Those churches are pushing the liberal agenda.

This is about as sincere as the “slavery preachers.” In this case as in that case, the answer is SEND MISSIONARIES.

Any church that wants to play politics should lose it’s tax exemption.

No exceptions.

I certainly hope these churches will also stand up for the undocumented check cashers and bank withdrawers. These people just happen to earn money in an illegal manner and the nasty citizens pass laws that are hurtful and uncaring.

As a catholic, I do not get this.
Every few weeks, we have our pastor preach this crap from the pulpit on Sunday.

I anticipate the same thing this Sunday.
Let me add, for the most part, I do not get Alabama catholics= they have a very skewed version of the Catholicism I know.

Well, for starters:

“Do not mistreat an alien or oppress him, for you were aliens in Egypt” Exodus22:21

When an alien lives with you in your land, do not mistreat him. The alien living with you must be treated as one of your native-born. Love him as yourself, for you were aliens in Egypt. I am the Lord your God. Leviticus 19:33, 34

Do not mistreat the alien or oppress him, for you were aliens in Egypt. Do not oppress an alien; you yourselves know what it feels to be aliens, because you were aliens in Egypt. Exodus 23:9

Cursed is the man who withholds justice from the alien, the fatherless or the widow. Deuteronomy 27:19

Do not neglect to show hospitality to strangers, for thereby some have entertained angels unawares. Hebrews 13:2

There’s more.....

There is a difference between an alien and an ILLEGAL alien. I think the Bible is referring to the former.

So stealing from a countries social services system by lying about being a citizen,, taking jobs and lying about social security numbers is ok with these churches? Taking services paid for by forcing honest citizens to put money into the system which is in reality stealing from honest citizens forcing them to give up what they worked for is ok with these churches? What Bible do they use anyway?

Deporting a criminal alien back to his homeland in a humane manner is not mistreating or oppressing.

So demanding that they follow the laws of the land they entered is mistreating them in your opinion?

...have all criticized the law as running counter to the Bible's teaching about loving others.

What? No one said that 'loving others' means you have to put up with them coming into your home uninvited, eating your food, demanding that they see your doctor, and make you pay for it all.

These churches need to shut the eff up and I include the Catholic church. They are really bad on defending illegals and I’m Catholic. We have got to get rid of this plaque of locusts or they are going to bankrupt us and steal our National identity.
