Both ends of the Earth were affected. People saw auroras in Tasmania, New Zealand, Antarctica, Wisconsin and Minnesota. The solar wind is still blowing strong on May 30th, prompting NOAA forecasters to estimate a 35% chance of more geomagnetic activity in the next 24 hours

Someday scientists will hopefully learn how to identify the affect of these events on “global warming” and “climate change”; which I believe are much greater than they are given credit for at this time.
The SUN is what is causing the chaotic weather on the planet.
What happened today is very similar to what happened with a CME and Solar Wind hitting earth’s magnetic field a couple days before the earthquake in Japan March 11th and the Christchurch quake Feb 15th....

Solar flaring warning issued....
Cape Town - The Space Weather Centre has warned that the sun is undergoing some instability, which has implications for electronic communications.
“There is a very active area on the sun as rotated onto the invisible solar disc. This active area has got the potential for more flaring for the next five to six days,” space weather forecaster Kobus Olckers of the Space Weather Warning Centre at the Hermanus Magnetic Observatory told News24.
He said that communications and electronic systems might be affected.
“The internet could be a little slower for the next week or so and especially long distance communications.”

Well in that NOAA graph, it looks like a swirling storm system just sitting off the California Coast....
I think they have said they are worried about some intense flooding in Northern California, and the levees holding up near Sacramento..

My bad, as he was referring to a "never before seen" closed loop high pressure pattern (skip to the 3:00 mark) instead of the low cyclonic pressure system you referred to, currently off the coast of California.
