Ryan Budget Gets 40 Votes in Senate, Obama Budget Gets 0
The Weekly Standard ^ | May 25, 2011 | JOHN MCCORMACK

Posted on 05/25/2011 4:23:23 PM PDT by mdittmar

That big fat zero is not a typo.

Not a single U.S. senator voted in favor of President Obama's budget proposal. Meanwhile, five members of GOP caucus voted against Ryan budget: moderates Scott Brown (Mass.), Susan Collins and Olympia Snowe of Maine, independent Lisa Murkowski (Ak.), and staunch libertarian Rand Paul (Ky.). So all of the swing state Republican senators sided with Ryan.

Apparently, the Senate Democrats think if they don't support anything they can't be demagogued in the same way they're demagoguing Ryan's plan. Harry Reid has dropped the phrasing that Republicans would end Medicare "as we know it," in favor of a less subtle statement on the Senate floor: "The Republican plan would kill Medicare."

Democrats can only duck the issue for so long, right?

On a related note:

"I do think that the Republican Party right now hasn't sort of figured out what it's for," Obama said in a White House interview [in 2009] with The Courier-Journal and reporters from five other newspapers. "And so as a proxy, they've just decided 'we're going to be against whatever the other side is for.' That's not what's needed in an economic crisis."

Bush did that already. the problem is that the MSM are the ones who write history and they will not report it that way.

I do not believe that the American electorate will choose a Congress that will fix our financial problems.

The end is very clear.

I admire Ryan for trying, he's very honorable and very brave, but the looters are going to win in the end.

Until the end.

Congress should ban all firearms and any attempt at self defense ASAP.

“They should offer up the bill again without medicare reform...”

Maybe, but not sure that would be doing the right thing. In 10 years social security, medicare and the interest on the debt will consume the entire Federal budget. 10 years seems like a long time, but in terms of being able to reform the system and leave time for everyone adjust to it, it would seem that the hour is growing late.

I think we should get Paul Ryan out there, have him explain his plan and then provide a lovely contrast between his plan and what the Democrats had in mind to do to seniors with ObamaCare. You know they ripped the program off to the tune of $500B, as if it weren’t already broke, and planned to ration care and let nature take its course to reduce the amount of potential recipients and the length of time benefits are paid for each. The general public wouldn’t necessarily know what they were getting until they get there - and someone should tell them.

Thanks mdittmar.
Not a single U.S. senator voted in favor of President Obama's budget proposal.
And that's the real story of the day, not the 40 votes for the Ryan budget plan. Try to guess how this will be covered by the partisan media shills on such trashy tabloid programs as Good Morning America, Today, the View...

It’s time to call the RATS what they are; Nazis. They tell us what to eat,how much we can make at work, what to smoke, what to drink, now what to drive. On top of all that, the stake through freedoms heart, when we can live.

A death panel is no different then the nazis putting jews in cattle cars and shipping them of to the camps. Now it is grandma or anyone with an illness that will change the quality of life.

First seniors, then white males, then kids with mental disorders. The sda thing about this, it is true.

Our 2012 campaign slogan should be a swastika with the Democrat D in the middle, all the nazi things the rats did with the slogan, “we’ll tell you when you can hope for change”

The rats opened the door with that mediscare ad. Time to break the door down.

Also great commercials with the unions marching and screaming like nice little brownshirts.

So I guess you’re a “moonbat libertarian” if you’re opposed to running deficits for the next 20 years?

Cutting insane government spending is THE issue and MUST be reversed NOW. Balancing the budget is not the first order of business especially because doing so at this point in time would be on the backs of the American people. Taxes need to be CUT and government spending CUT even more. This only the first needed step.

What's your answer, stay with Obama's economic highway to hell? The only other game in town is Ryan's budget and it looks like a good start. Sometimes Ron Paul doesn't seem to be in realityland

It really shouldn’t be enough for any conservative. It’s not acceptable to have unbalanced budgets until 2030. We’ll have a fiscal crises long before then. Rather than being extreme, Paul Ryan’s budget is simply way too timid. I don’t think I could vote for a budget that runs deficits for the next 20 years.

After all this and four years of more insanity. Ron Paul is the only one that seems coherent to me.

The real answer should be to balance the budget right now. That could happen if Congress simply refused to raise the debt ceiling.
