The CIA maintained a safe house in the Pakistani city of Abbottabad for a small team of spies who conducted extensive surveillance over a period of months on the compound where Osama bin Laden was killed by U.S. Special Operations forces this week, U.S. officials said.
The secret CIA facility was used as a base of operations for one of the most delicate human intelligence gathering missions in recent CIA history, one that relied on Pakistani informants and other sources to help assemble a pattern of life portrait of the occupants and daily activities at the fortified compound where bin Laden was found, the officials said.
The on-the-ground surveillance work was part of an intelligence-gathering push mobilized after the discovery of the suspicious complex last August that involved virtually every category of collection in the U.S. arsenal, ranging from satellite imagery to eavesdropping efforts aimed at recording voices inside the compound.
The effort was so extensive and costly that the CIA went to Congress in December to secure authority to reallocate tens of millions of dollars within assorted agency budgets to fund it, U.S. officials said.
Most of that surveillance capability remained in place until the execution of the raid by U.S. Navy SEALs shortly after 1 a.m. in Pakistan. The agencys safe house did not play a role in the raid and has since been shut down, in part because of concerns about the safety of CIA assets in the aftermath, but also because the agencys work was considered finished.

A JDAM woulda been cheaper but it seems they did a good job.
Did they get a good look at the squirt gun?
why is the administration revealing this?
Did they hire the guy who spent last summer in Alaska?
This is not really news, these things don;t take place in a vacuum and I’m sure we’ll never know just all that went into this operation and for good reason.
Hard drives are not a treasure trove, a singing OBL? That was the only treasure ever in the compound.
how about the GP coordinates? Al qaeda will kill everyone within a mile of the place
Yeah.. let’s TELL THE WHOLE WORLD HOW THIS WAS DONE!!!!! That makes great sense.
/s
This confirms what I was thinking and there’s some questions that need answers!
Why was the operation scheduled at this particular time? The CIA has know OBL’s location for at least 9 months. With OBL at one place for six years, I’m thinking the CIA knew his location, and was monitoring communications for longer than that.
Why was OBL killed??? As others have pointed out, OBL was the treasure trove of information. Did he know something that was not supposed to be made public?? Was he threatening to talk? Was he talking?
Why now? Why killed? Who knew? Who made the decision?
The rest of the story is begging to be told.
I wonder how the Chinese paid for that stealth Helicopter?
Without photos, for all we know they have 0sama behind an iron mask in some super-secret prison. /tinfoil
This does not pass my smell test, I'm calling bull s#### on this. Basically here's my reason, these agency have a budget for this type of stuff already, on top of that tens of millions of dollars is just a drop in the bucket to the intelligence agencies, especially to the Democrats who spend it faster then they can tax the h### out of us. Like I said I'm calling bull on this, I may be wrong, but my gut feeling is the Washington Post is just trying to make Obama sound like he is really looking out for the American tax payer and making sure our money is going toward the right government agency instead of some rich non deserving greedy Republican created agency.
Why? Because they weren’t going to be allowed to waterboard him.
My tinfoil hat went on when I heard that they found a video that OBL was about to release. According to the administration the video was made right before the kill.
The story began to smell at that moment and nothing that has happened since has changed my mind.
So they waited until they needed to stop the slide in the polls, is that correct.
Why now on May 1? Ummm...think about it.
Think of the importance of May Day to the internationalist collectivists all over the world including the Impostor-In-Chief.
Also, Hitler was declared dead on May Day by the Commies.
