(CNN) -- Was Barack Obama really born in America? A new CNN investigation reveals what most analysts have been saying since the so-called "birther" controversy erupted during the 2008 presidential campaign: Obama was born in the state of Hawaii on August 4, 1961. Period.

While the president has made light of the controversy, the question remains political red meat for some of his critics. A recent CNN/Opinion Research Corporation poll showed that nearly 75% of Americans believe Obama was definitely or probably born in the United States. More than four in 10 Republicans, however, believe he probably or definitely was not born in America.
The U.S. Constitution says only "natural born" citizens can become president -- a vague clause that some members of the birther movement contend disqualifies Obama because, they insist, he was born outside the United States. Skeptics contend, among other things, that Obama was born in his father's home country of Kenya. Potential GOP presidential candidate Donald Trump recently seized on the issue, saying he had doubts about Obama's background.
Dr. Chiyome Fukino, a former director of the Hawaii Department of Health and a Republican, told CNN in her most extensive comments to date that she has "no doubt" Obama was born in the state.

Starts out visiting the house. A Republican lives there now! Says he’s not sure about the birth.
Abercrombie (who must be 4 feet tall) says he remembered the pregnant mom and was there with them shortly after Obama was born.
Stig’s mom (guy from last night). She says she remembers seeing him as a baby next to her son in the nursery!
Shot of Stig’s COLB and ... it avoids showing the certificate number.
Long forms are in a “vault.” (A month ago it was in a file cabinet as per Hawaiian official.)
Fukino says she “finds it amusing” that it keeps resurfacing.
Abercrombie releasing the document said he’d release it. But didn’t. Says he can’t because he’s not allowed by law.
ERROR HERE: Fukino is giving out this ‘confidential’ information. Isn’t she violating that law??
Abercrombie emotionally saying ‘respect us’ blah blah blah. Leave Barack Aloooone!
Trump on phone next.
Trump phone. “I don’t think it exists Anderson. I hope it exists.”
“You know what Obama should do, he should say, ‘It’s okay to release it.’”
The issue of $2 million in fees. Cooper points out the FEC filing, not sure what he spent the money on or how much. Trump: “Why should he waste money? ..It’s a private document but he can release it.”
Stamp signature. Trump: “Lots of details.”
ERROR: Trump doesn’t know CertificaTION of Live Birth vs. Certificate of Live Birth (a/k/a long form birth certificate).
Anderson: How can you rely on the long form from Hawaii?
Trump: Stephy was nice to me except on this issue. Hawaii was saying they didn’t have it but now they do have it. “I’m hearing it either disappeared or never existed. Either way he has a problem.”
The Muslim issue: (Cooper setting him up for it not being a shot on religion not on form.) Trump just says release it.
Cooper: Planted the announcement. Says it’s not possible to plant it. Only way to get health announcement was from the State.
Trump: Grandparents could have put it in. Ad was placed 8 to 14 days later.
Cooper: There was a backlog. Took longer to put in the paper.
Is this supposed to be news show? I’ve never watched it before.
Cut to Jay Carney complimenting the CNN piece. “The birth certificate that was put up online ...”
ERROR: They never put it up online. It’s never been independently inspected or introduced as an exhibit.
Then goes to echo chamber of people saying it helps Obama.
They’re getting really scared. You can smell the fear. Or maybe that’s just Cooper’s perfume.
Ha!
Cooper follows up, “Why not just release the long form?” They feel the goal posts would be moved further. They feel the “birther” talk helps out Obama politically with the squishy wishy washy middle of American politics that decides elections.
Only 32% believe Obama was definitely born in the US? If they think that’s helping Obama, good luck!
