Video: Watch Paul Ryan Get Booed After He Defends Current Tax Levels For The Rich
Business Insider ^ | 04/20/2011 | Joe Weisenthal

Rising star Paul Ryan seems to have had a rough outing when talking to seniors in Milton Wisconsin today. The video, posted by liberal site ThinkProgress, shows an antsy group of seniors question Ryan about current levels of taxes on the rich.

Specifically, he's asked why the rich can't pay more in taxes -- even if we do cut spending -- and at about 1:25 he said "we do tax the top," which is what prompts the chorus of boos.

Two things we take away from this: cutting spending is going to be political hell and people like to see other people get taxes.

Retirees don’t care about the current rate of unemployment.

He was supported by the great majority during his listening session in North Prairie, WI on Monday.

This was probably a concerted effort by union activists. There was a guy with a Flip video camera shooting the whole session in North Prairie.

HMMM...the timing of the question ON Stinkprogress is suspect. When did seniors care about tax rates when they are receiving their retirements? Looks like it was planned from the get go..

And why do these people think they are entitled to other peoples work?

I guess that kind of explains why their children think and vote the way they do...

They are simply owed...

F’em...

These worthless people can go screw themselves. I personally couldn't care less if they lost their benefits because we could no longer borrow money to pay them.

Now they will know what all of us in Generation X and beyond will have to contend with. Hope they like it!

Senior citizens are still amongst the richest group of people in this country, and that is before you factor in things like Social Security benefits and other private retirement savings. For those of us in Generation X and beyond, we have so much of our paycheck sucked away in taxes that we simply cannot afford to have enough kids to work to pay for benefits for these ingrates. And a work-free retirement? Hah! Another pipe dream.

“Tax the rich more” apparently is the latest Rat talking point faxed out to the unions and special interest groups like AARP. I’ve noticed this line of thought in very recent letters to the editor and at a local Rat protest over the weekend.

Companies leaving the US or moving their headquarters. The wealthy will do the same. Costa Rica is booming. Not much reason to stay in the US once Obama destroys the healthcare system.

The major flaw of democracy is that once the people discover they can vote themselves tribute, the majority will until it leads to the demise of democracy.Europe has been doing it for decades and Obama is playing catchup. It is a shame the majority of people complain about the debt and yet when push comes to shove they will surrender no tribute.Instead, they will look to the people in the tax brackets above them to surrender their benefits through means testing and pay for the benefits of the majority by increased taxation.

Alot of those seniors still pay taxes on their retirement. Plus if they are like us they have few deductions because their houses are either paid off or close enough that it doesn’t help.
My hubby is retired and we pay more taxes now than we did when he worked because we have NO deductions.

I personally think Seniors should share in the misery. They are a big reason we are in the mess we are in. I wasn’t of voting age when the Social Security turned into a ponzi scheme and the funds were thrown into the general fund. The Seniors who are crying that they live on SS are the ones who chose to put their retirment in the hands of government and didn’t save for themselves. They can move in with family if they can’t afford to live on their own. Or they can eat dog food. Just kidding about the dog food.

If you have NOT the right to the fruits of your own labor, then the government can have no right to take it from you to give to others, because all government authority derives exclusively from the rights of its citizens, who cannot grant the power to own or acquire property unless they have such rights themselves. And if the one who earned it has not the right to it, then those to whom the government would give it have no such rights either.

I guess generating more revenue from economic growth is out of the question.

Bulls**t, I've been retired since 98 and I am indeed worried about the current rate of unemployment and so are the retired people I know (Our Kids, Young friends, Young Family Members)!
Not all of us are greedy geezers.

Indeed. That stuff is expensive, and in most states, subject to sales tax.

Sounds good, but good luck getting the basic American educated idiot to grasp that concept.

'who chose to put their retirment in the hands of government and didn’t save for themselves.'

I was not aware of a 'choice'. (I get more from my 401K than I do from SS.)

Thanks for the posts on this SandF.

I take no pleasure in being right about this (politically.) This is a very important issue to me and it is painful seeing Republicans flounder on it.
