ATF gunwalking scandal: Second agent speaks out (Other Agencies knew about it!)
CBS ^ | March 21, 2011 | Sharyl Attkisson

Posted on 03/21/2011 3:54:11 PM PDT by Red in Blue PA

(CBS News) WASHINGTON - South of El Paso on Mexico's side of the border lies Juarez - the most dangerous city in the world. CBS News investigative correspondent Sharyl Attkisson reports ATF Special Agent Rene Jaquez has been stationed there for the past year trying to keep U.S. guns from being trafficked into Mexico.

"That's what we do as an agency," Jaquez said. "ATF's primary mission is to make sure that we curtail gun trafficking."

That's why Jaquez tells CBS News he was so alarmed to hear his own agency may have done the opposite: encouraged U.S. gun dealers to sell to suspected traffickers for Mexico's drug cartels. Apparently, ATF hoped that letting weapons "walk" onto the street - to see where they'd end up - would help them take down a cartel.

--snip--

But ATF wasn't working alone on the case known as "Fast and Furious." Documents show ATF had conference calls with DHS (Homeland Security,) "USMS" (U.S. Marshals,) and DEA. An "ICE" or Customs agent was on ATF's Fast and Furious team. They were advised by an "AUSA" or Assistant U.S. Attorney under the Justice Department.

"I lean towards the other option, that they were trying to shut down legal sales by claiming the cabals were getting their weapons on the north side of the tracks."

That's a given: if the ATF is involved, and it's a big splashy, headline-grabbing case, it's a given that the real intent is to demonize lawful gun owners.

Now there is a question posed that needs an answer.

BULL CRAP!

They were manufacturing evidence to support the notion that US gun shows and gun stores are supplying the weapons used in Mexico.

This is pathetic spin.

The ONLY reason I can see for not having closed the Southern border is that someone(s) highly placed have been consistently receiving payoffs from the drug trade and possibly the market in illegal labor.

Anything less would be simple treason, not just corruption.

The federal government is completely out of control. Corrupt and bloated, they serve only themselves and their ranks, together a slightly westernized version of the Politburo.

I place 90% of the blame on the conniving shills for communism known as the Democrat Party and 10% on the candy-assed, limp-wristed, cowardly Republicans collapsing onto their fainting couches every time the rat mouthpiece media barks at them.

I don’t just lean towards it; it is the only plausible reason to do what they did.

Of course other departments knew. The real question is whether they will testify under oath.

The government is criminals...

Yes it is, and amazingly, they are never held accountable for their actions.

And the people go along with this.

What would the Founders have said?

Yes, it seems possible to trace any fired bullet to the firing arm by matching the marks on the bullet to a bullet fired by the arm. As you can imagine, it would be very difficult to perform the match if the arm is not readily available for testing and bullet comparison. In a criminal investigation, the arm and fired bullets are usually easy to connect but if there were hundreds of arms at the crime scene, it would not be so easy. Someone correct me if I am wrong—I am not an expert in crime forensics.
If I were trying to set up a tracing program to follow illegal arms to a crime organization, I would think that microstamping (or other marking of the arms) would be an important technique to use so that the bullets/cases could be easily identified to the firing arm.

When did all this start? Did it start under ocokesnorter?

"To help combat firearms trafficking into Mexico, ATF began Project Gunrunner as a pilot project in Laredo, Texas, in 2005 and expanded it as a national initiative in 2006. Project Gunrunner is also part of the Department’s broader Southwest Border Initiative, which seeks to reduce cross-border drug and firearms trafficking and the high level of violence associated with these activities on both sides of the border."

You would think the might of the world's only superpower could build 400 yards of fence a day, on average. There has been plenty of time to secure the border since Reagan was president, and the problem has been known at least that long.

With rare exception in limited areas, the remediations have been tactical at best, and not strategic in nature nor scope.

“We will probably hear it twas “BUSHES FAULT”.”

Don’t kid yourself, that’s the only reason CBS is running the stories. Somebody else mentioned above it started in 2008. There ya go. They think they have something they can stick to W, and take the focus off the loser currently occupying the castle, and guarantee his reelection, with a republican scandal.
At the same time the media will shape this into a “See this is why we need to be like England, and do away with all guns. Look at all the money we could save if all these agencies weren’t chasing these guns all the time.”
I may not be dead on with my reasoning, but you can believe there’s something Machiavellian about this.

Indeed heads need to roll especially at justice where the U.S. Attorney’s office should have stopped this before it even got started.

This mess didn’t start in Tucson or Pheonix it started in Washington D.C. . To many people high up in Washington approved of the idea but gave detailed orders to subordinates to make it happen. That is what must not be ignored or forgotten.
