I don’t agree that respect has to be earned, at least in some instances.

The office of president should be respected unless the occupant is a repugnant person and I sure think Obama is that and worse.

I personally, think people have been respectful. Respect is earned. We have had two years of Obama and he has not earned our respect; he has lost our respect.
