The police were looting? OH my - things are out of control.
Beck had a good segment about how the very people who create/initiate the vacuum are the ones who step in to fill it - all in the name of restoring order. But, in the end, it’s more than order that the nation will get.
We will see what happens.
Not any good news to speak of. The Israelis are getting their people out. Of course, they are the foreign enemy #1 on the street. Americans are foreign enemy #2 and there is no apparent move to get American tourists, etc. out.
You can bet that they are closely watching the White House. So far what they saw from Obama was outright confusion and FEAR. I expect Iraq to start acting up very soon with Iran behind it.
Also read a report Mubarak is attempting to bribe the military to stay with him, as he attempts to hold power.

January 29: The following is a report from a STRATFOR source in Hamas. Hamas, which formed in Gaza as an outgrowth of the Egyptian Muslim Brotherhood (MB), has an interest in exaggerating its role and coordination with the MB in this crisis. The following information has not been confirmed. Nonetheless, there is a great deal of concern building in Israel and the United States in particular over the role of the MB in the demonstrations and whether a political opening will be made for the Islamist organization in Egypt.
The Egyptian police are no longer patrolling the Rafah border crossing into Gaza. Hamas armed men are entering into Egypt and are closely collaborating with the MB. The MB has fully engaged itself in the demonstrations, and they are unsatisfied with the dismissal of the Cabinet. They are insisting on a new Cabinet that does not include members of the ruling National Democratic Party.
Security forces in plain clothes are engaged in destroying public property in order to give the impression that many protesters represent a public menace. The MB is meanwhile forming people’s committees to protect public property and also to coordinate demonstrators’ activities, including supplying them with food, beverages and first aid.
If Hamas start sticking their nose in, then so will Israel...what next, ffs.

And the youth rioters still will not have jobs, but will spend their days of rage against the US and Israel.

Good question...where all the cops went. From what I can gather, the cops are by and large detested by the people, while the military is looked on more favorably. The cops were getting attacked yesterday, so it appears they were told to stand down...by...Mubarak?
Scenario 1) Mubarak is encouraging the looting and disorder so people will beg him to lay down the law.
Scenario 2) The behind-the-scenes POM (powers other than Mubarak) are encouraging the looting so people will turn to them in gratitude.
If I remember correctly from previous skirmishes in the ME, the islamists are always there to provide food for the hungry...they are the only ones who are “there for the people” when the SHTF...and of course are there to fill the inevitable power vacuum..
