Ford is the latest U.S. automaker to announce it is hiring again.

Ford said Thursday it will add 1,800 workers at a plant in Louisville to build the Escape, the second best-selling small SUV in the U.S. after the Honda CR-V. The automaker is investing $600 million in the plant, which will be shut for a year while new equipment is installed so that Ford can build the Escape on a more fuel efficient car platform.

The plant currently employs 1,100 people on one shift and has been building the Ford Explorer mid-size SUV since 1989. Production of the Explorer is being moved to a plant in Chicago.

I used to own a 1998 Explorer. A few years ago, I was sitting at a red light when a Lincoln Town Car and a Cadillac El Dorado collided in the middle of the intersection. The Lincoln went airborne and slammed into me on the front driver's side corner. The impact was hard enough that my Explorer was shoved sideways almost ten feet.

The damage to my Explorer was just over $7800, but I walked away with just a bruised knee from having it resting against the door when the Town Car hit me.

“This is the Ford Kuga a Euro Small SUV...”

Hmmm....
That looks remarkably like the current Toyota RAV4!

“the plant, which will be shut for a year while new equipment is installed”

A lot can happen in a year.

Those workers are expected to migrate along with the SUV they currently build.

Actually the Maazda is a rebadged Escape.

I'm not sure either one can claim original ownership. They both use a Taurus-derived drive train on a modified Mazda 626 chassis.

You are certainly correct there, at least for now.

It’s more complicated than that.

The Escape/Mariner/Tribute uses a heavily modified Mazda 626 chassis, combined with a 2.5L Duratec (Joint Mazda/Ford design) or a 3.0L Duratec (which debuted on the 1996 Taurus) for an engine... For a transmission, you get either a manual from who-knows-where or an automatic that was a GM/Ford Joint Venture....

That closed-loop system they use for deciding when to send power the rear wheels on the 4WD models is kind of interesting, too.

Ford Motor Company, which Rush pointed out did get a cash infusion from the Obama stimulations, is supported by the New World Order, of which it is an official member, as well as by the UAW.

It was Ford Motor Credit that got a helping hand.

And Toyota Motor Credit and Honda Motor Credit, and Nissan, etc...

Pretty much every credit division of every car company got access to commercial paper through the Federal Reserve.

And the Federal Reserve made a profit on every last one of those loans.

“Ford said Thursday it will add 1,800 workers at a plant in Louisville to build the Escape”

I bet they get over 1 million job applications.

A lot of “foreign” cars are built in the US. My Acura was built in Marysville, Ohio.

For about the 10,000th time. These Cars are "assembled" here in the US. Most of the jobs created by the Japanese and others are low-tech final assembly. Many people are foolish enough to believe working for Toyota is no different from working at GM or Ford.

WRONG.

This is what a lot of very stupid and foolish people have been led to believe. Only the most naive and foolish people believe it's not essential have have domestic companies building our major transportation vehicles.

Ford is not adding 1800 jobs. There are already 1100 employees working there. They will only add additional jobs if they go to three shifts, and that depends on sales. The DH is a Ford retiree and works as a supplier rep now. Almost all the news about the Kuga coming to Louisville has been overblown.
