Don't touch my junk? Grow up, America. (*BARF* Alert)
WaPo ^ | 11/24/2010 | Ruth Marcus

My family, as it happens, is taking the bus to Grandma's this Thanksgiving. But our choice of transportation has nothing to do with anxiety about leering security screeners or fear of pat-downs.

The uproar over the new procedures is overblown and immature. The marginal invasion of privacy is small relative to the potential benefit of averting a terrorist attack. Meanwhile, some of the loudest howls of outrage emanate from those who would be quickest to blame the Obama administration for not doing enough to protect us if a bomber did slip through.

Granted, the images from the souped-up screeners are uncomfortably graphic. But where is the harm if some guy in another room, who doesn't have a clue who I am and doesn't see my face (it's obscured on the machine), gets a look at my flabby middle-aged self? The images are automatically deleted once the screening is completed. It's the old philosophical riddle: If your butt sags in the forest . . .

By contrast, the pat-down is actually intrusive, no question about it. But you most likely won't have to endure it unless you balk at the enhanced imaging. If you do, the pat-down will be conducted by a screener of the same gender. If you want, it can be done in a private area.

Hey bee-yatch, you libs are always screaming about “stay out of my bedroom” and “my body is mine” and so forth.

But suddenly bodily invasion in public is just fine.

Why?

I want to know WHY my submitting to this bodily invasion and humiliation is so important to you. You laughed at Bush’s work to stop terrorists, and called all us fearful for wanting to stop attacks, but suddenly, it’s SO important that we all submit to bodily invasion. I don’t get it.

It appears it’s just us Crazy Right Folks who this bothers. Fox News was showing the head of the TSA going on about how all he gets is “thank you for protecting us” comments from people. Another marginalization of the Right, as crazy lunatics. I guess as long as the majority approves of a police state, it’s OK for goodness sake! Get with it you Righties!

They called to Lot, “Where are the men who came to you tonight? Bring them out to us so that we can have sex with them.””

eek

I get it that some people are flaccid enough to let gov’t agents grope them, poke them, xray them and abuse them any other way the authority demands. What I don't get is why they are unable to understand other people take their freedom and liberty a little more seriously.

Hey Ruth.

I'll have to have sex with your daughter to save us from terrorism.

I know, from this article, you will have no problem with that.

you mean like the underwear bomber? Terrorists will still slip through because we aren’t looking for them. But they’ll use a method that won’t be detected by the scanners.

For liberals the imagined "ends" always justifies the very real "means"...they never learn from history, have no idea what the term slippery slope means and they will justify any and all despicable behavior in the name of their fantasy future. Immature bunch.

One thing I don’t understand is why all the images of these intrusive pat-downs show a white person being the pattee. In that a coincidence, or does it represent what is actually happening? The Pattors are a variety of races and ethnic backgrounds, but all the Pattees are white. Hmmmmm

That is the New International Version (NIV) translation. A far cry from the original and/or King James Version.

I wonder what the WaPo would have to say if a Republican administration wanted to trim a bit off of the 1st Amendment in the name of security.

If Bush were POTUS, Marcus and the ACLU would be all over this as a violation of rights.
