Beck has become such a conspiracy nut he’s getting embarrassing. I surfed past his TV show and he was blathering about canning vegetables. My Mom did that.

The Contrailians are a hard-working bunch.

If it was a missile, where’s the wreckage?

Maybe it's just me but... The Pacific looks like a pretty big Ocean. splashdowns are hard to pinpoint.

Why is the contrail perpendicular to the beach & horizon?

Parallax. An airplane flying over the horizon (i.e. following the curvature of the earth) and toward the viewer is moving upward relative to the viewer. And at great distances, depth perception is less effective. So something several miles away and pointing upward will tend to look vertical.

Add to this that a camera is a two-dimensional device, and that a zoom lens tends to "compress" the distance between distant and close objects. A vertical-appearing contrail should really not surprise any observant persion.

"The only thing about this story that bothers me is the lack of other witnesses to the same event. How is it in a basin of millions of people, only a TV news chopper captured the event? Where is the supporting video from other sources?"

They are all smokin' weed.

I lived in So Cal from 1964 to 1993. In that span of 29 years, I saw many contrails. I liuved in the west end of the San Fernando Valley & Rocketdyne has a test facility in Box Canyon. They would do static tests over those years of various types of solid propellent fuels.

The vibrations, noise, & smoke produced were awesome.

Commercial planes DO NOT take off out of the Pacific Ocean from 25 miles offshore & north of Catalina Island. There is no airport runway on Catalina which would accomodate a commercial plane.

They can pass around all the BS stories they want in Washington.
Every person I have talked to who lived in or still lives in So Cal says the same thing-—a missle. NOT a plane.

I was going to say it happened at 5:08 and they were all inside watching Beck but that is Pacific time so my joke is ruined.

Either China or North Korea.

N Korea has been sabre-rattling for the better part of the last year.

Hey, I’m no missile expert. How fast is a trident missile going two minutes after launch?

My first thougth was North Korea after all of the reports about after the Gufl oil disaster that it may have been hit by a NK sub...but China would be just as easy to believe. We do owe them a lot of money and they don’t really like us all that well.

I agree.

The Chi Coms can take us out without firing a shot. They have nothing to prove with a missile launch.

The Iranians would have more to gain, but only if they had something to deliver. Our sensors would have picked up a test.

The Russians have better stuff than that.

Aside from that, who would want to tweak us like that?

The whole, ‘they are trying to send a message” thing just doesn’t make sense.

I would buy a test of someone else’s weapons from our launch platform. But why hide that?

Unfortunately the contrail is the only thing that makes sense.

The Pacific looks like a pretty big Ocean. splashdowns are hard to pinpoint.

There are also hundreds of boats in that very busy part of the ocean, off the beaches of LA.

Nobody saw a missle come out of the water, nobody saw a missle go back into the water. Nobody saw a missle flying by or overhead. And no radar detected a missle of any kind.

But we're supposed to just know it was a missle. It just was. It was just a Chinese missle launched from a sub to nowhere for no known purpose.

Not good for Beck’s credibility.

Because he's not yielding on the "Boss, da plane, de plane" crock?

Deal with it: The ChiComs flexed muscle and "gently" reminded DC of their "wrong-headed" policies regarding the dollar.

Like the mafia, the next time somebody's knee get's broken.
