Home Secretary Theresa May has confirmed a device found at East Midlands airport could have brought down an aircraft.
Following the COBRA meeting May said the device found in the UK was "viable" and that the threat level in the UK is severe meaning an attack in the country is highly likely.
The Home Secretary also said that she has been in regular contact with PM and restrictions will be placed on all flights from Yemen.
The parcel sparked a terror alert at East Midlands airport, on the Derbyshire and Leicestershire border.

The two packages were both addressed to Jewish synagogues in the Chicago area and had originated in Yemen.
The parcel bombs was prepared in a professional manner, with a closed electrical circuit connected to a mobile phone SIM card hidden inside the printer.
Explosive material pentaerynthritol trinitrate was found with in the packages, concealed within the printers. Just 100g of the highly volatile substance is needed to blow up a car.

Yes, if that bomb was “viable” why didn’t it blow up the passenger plane in the UK? Was it intended to be put onto another plane and then blow up? Or was it a dud?
It was allowed to go as far as it did because the administration desperately needs 24 to 48 hours of trumped of coverage of a nothing event to keep eyes off how deep in trouble he and the Dems are in on Tuesday.

Maybe the reason why the mail (or UPS) was used to send these bombs is that nothing really gets checked as it comes into the US. Or not enough. Yesterday we received a gift from Switzerland. A fondue pot, with several packages of Sterno in it. No one is checking these things.

That is what I don’t understand... What were the jets supposed to do? Were the pilots or a passenger suspected? What was the purpose of the escort?
To me, the most obvious reason would to have eyes close by outside the plane able to observe if a bomb did go off (rather than simply watching a blip disappear from radar). Another idea that is only wild speculation: would mil aircraft be able to jam cell phone signals and thus prevent remote triggering of the device?
