If a hunter's gotta go, what's wrong with the woods? (A lighthearted take from a judge in Texas)

Sometimes we get so worked up it is good to have a little common sense humor.

If it's permissible for bears to do what bears do in the woods, why not Texas hunters?

This question popped up March 9 when the Waco regional office of the Texas Commission on Environmental Quality got a complaint on hunters pooping in the woods in rural Limestone County, east of Waco.

"The complainant alleged that David Cousins had been leasing out a hunting cabin and allowing the hunters to deficate (sic) in the woods," the TCEQ complaint report says.

Part of the problem, said Anna Dunbar, regional director of TCEQ's Waco office, is that the hunting cabin had an outhouse. "It was just an old-fashioned hole in the ground with a little seat over it," she said. She explained that outhouses of this sort are "strictly prohibited."

Outhouses are illegal in Texas? What's this state coming to?

This brings up a serious philosophical question. Should hunters have plumbing, and if they do, should they be forced to use it? Doesn't the Second Amendment address hunters going in the woods? If it doesn't, it should. Many hunters go hunting not so much for the deer as to get away from the "Yes, dear." Hey, there is such a thing as quality of life.

Only politicians are allowed to have outhouses.

I’ve often felt like taking a leak outdoors, particularly when I see those “environmentally sensitive aquifer recharge zone” warning signs. I figger if all sorts of animals are allowed to pee there, why shouldn’t I?

Funny letter, but on a more serious note, those old fashioned outhouses may have been "natural" but they were hardly safe. Fortunately, cholera is no longer a common disease in this part of the world and hopefully the man leasing out the cabin has taken precautions with that type of facility to prevent illness and disease.

Just call me the thread party pooper. lol

As a backpacker, I’ve read several trail books, and I must say I was dismayed to read that the Grand Canyon has problems with human waste. Supposedly, people have to “carry it out”; can anyone confim this?

That would change the experience forever:
“Is the fire out?” “Got it!”
“Everyone packed and ready to go?” “Sir yes sir!”
“Are the feces secured?” (crickets chirping)

If Obama is allowed to do it on our Constitution, why can’t a hunter do the same thing in the woods?

“has taken precautions with that type of facility to prevent illness “

The proper outhouse will see a bag of lime sitting on a shelf. It keeps the amount of critters down.

IIRC, “de minimus” has a legal meaning which translates to “too unimportant to be worthy of notice”.

The Judge also was kind in his indirect references to the circus that would ensue if any more efforts were expended on “the case of those who dumped in the woods”.

yes

“de minimus” has a legal meaning which translates to “too unimportant to be worthy of notice”.

And what i would hope is a federal judge would rule that the carbon dioxide human beings contribute to the atmosphere is: de minimus.

oh well. i was trying to make a joke.
