Southern Shame, Southern Ghosts (CONFEDERATE FLAG BAN)
World Net Daily ^ | September 30, 2010 | Franklin Raff

Posted on 09/30/2010 3:55:02 AM PDT by golux

The University of Mississippi has terminated its mascot, "Colonel Reb." The mascot, an archetypal Southern gentleman with a hat, cane, and a little bow-tie, is of course racist.

Affable, bearded and jaunty, with a bright costume that cleverly foiled his dark history on the plantation, Col. Reb, when he was alive, looked rather like that other infamous slave-driver, Col. Sanders, whose inscrutable and permanent smile these days (in markets where he still shows his face) offers only a faint clue as to the fortunes he's made in his long, post-war masquerade as a peddler of fried chicken.

"We just want it to be over," said one Mississippi student on the subject of Col. Reb's execution.

Watch your back, Sanders.

There is of course nothing sacred about a football mascot or a corporate brand, and nothing particularly sad about the disappearance of either one, except for the fact that now there is nothing left of Southern symbolism to erase.

(SNIP)

And now we learn that what legions of Americans consider to be a transcendent symbol of extraordinary military leadership and valor, states' rights, indefatigable heroism, enduring pride and strength in the face of terrible odds and calamitous defeat – the Confederate battle flag – is now officially deemed a symbol of hate by the U.S. armed forces. Prospective members of all branches of the armed forces who happen to have a "Confederate flag" tattoo are automatically rejected.

(SNIP)

When they once again encounter their ancestors, which I believe they will, how will so many Americans account for their feeble treachery?

Maybe, like the Mississippi student, they will say: "We just wanted it to be over."

I wonder what some of those old heroes might say in reply....

In other words it's a ridiculous question not worth an answer since the odds of someone like you getting off their backside and actually seceding are somewhere between zilch point shit and none.

Which begs the question: Besides blowing chunks of low grade gray matter all over FR, what do you and the coven actively do to staunch the socialist flow in the US? (psst..whatever it is, it ain't workin)

Again, actually do something first and then ask me the question.

You know why you refuse to answer my question? Because I've got you cornered. Again. So what do you do? Essentially, cut and run, the very thing that you and your harpies have been castigating us Rebs about for years.

I will always have a certain level of respect for someone who has the courage to act on their convictions as opposed to those who do nothing but sit on their duff and talk about it.

Are you familiar with the Tea Party? You ever been to a Tea Party rally? I'm also involved on a local level. I'll give you my name and address so you can check it out for yourself, but, of course, you're going to have to agree to a reciprocal agreement so that I can see if you do anything besides sit on your duff and spew hate, venom and lies on FR and DU all day and night.

Do we have a deal?

Get you banned? Perish the thought!

IOW, you can't support your accusation that I'm a fascist.

It's just another example the false accusations, lies, venom and hate that you've been posting on FR for years.

And you've been successful...how?

Cornered my ass. You're like the five year old who says, "I'm going to run away from home. Then what will you do?" They're all talk and so are you. So instead of speculating over how I'll respond to something that has a zero chance of happening, prove me wrong on that and then you can push me for a response.

Are you familiar with the Tea Party? You ever been to a Tea Party rally? I'm also involved on a local level.

And is your Tea Party going to secede with you? Or are they staying and fighting for the country as a whole?

Do we have a deal?

Not interested.

Soldiers seldom get a chance to decide who they are sent out to kill.

And when they do, it really stinks on ice. At least, it did for Robert E. Lee.

The war would have been much shorter if he had gone Union, IMHO.

And how do you come to the conclusion that "its the north that wants to keep fighting the Civil War." If enough people start walking around with Mexican or German or Japanese or Soviet flags on their clothing, the rest of us are going to wonder what's going on and what's wrong with you. If you're the one's wearing those symbols on your clothing, you're the one's who can't put the past behind you.

I see that x is another defender of PC, selective freedom of speech.

Where are you getting that from?

You have the right to where what you want.

Other people have the right to think what they want about how you dress.

My point was, if you're wearing the emblem of some historical movement from over a century ago or going on and on about how wonderful it was, you don't go accusing other people of not putting the past behind us.

Alabama leads all-time 5-2

09-24-1938: Alabama 19, USC 7
01-01-1946: Alabama 34, USC 14
09-12-1970: USC 42, Alabama 21
09-10-1971: Alabama 17, USC 10
10-08-1977: Alabama 21, USC 20
09-23-1978: USC 24, Alabama 14
12-28-1985: Alabama 24, USC 3

Both of USC’s wins were in the 70s, but Alabama also won 2.

Roll Tide!

Its strange , too, how things seem to have switched. Back then the Republicans were the North and Democrats were the South. Now its the exact opposite. Liberal Democrats are in the North and conservative Republicans are in the south.

Just to clear up the confusion on the part of some people. There is a difference between the “Battle Flag” and the “Stars and Bars.” The latter was the official government flag of the CSA. The former was their “war flag” and naval flag:

Because I saw 'Southern shame' in the heading and thought it might be about you.

But as I've said on one or two posts already I honestly don't care what flag a boob like you flies or when you fly it. You can make it a state law requiring you to stick the flagpole up your butt and fart Dixie before every public event and I could honestly not care less.

First off, check the posts. My comments were not made as a comparison to some straw man southern leader who according to your logic makes Lincoln better by comparison. They were about Lincoln, and more importantly Lincon's own words. As are these:
"I believe it would be better to export them all to some fertile country with a good climate, which they could have to themselves." Lincoln, 1865
Still want to argue that its 'not true" that Lincoln wanted to deport slaves? How about the fact that in Dec 1862 he proposed a constitutional amendment to “appropriate money, and otherwise provide, for colonizing free colored persons with their own consent, at any place or places without the United States.”
I noticed how you conveniently side step facts that contradict your opinion. Why is it that you want to steer the conversation in a direction that you have some rebuttal for?

Its comical, and additionally very telling of your limited grasp of historical fact that you use the L-D debates, as this gem came from the first one:
"I will say, then, that I am not, nor ever have been, in favor of bringing about in any way the social and political equality of the white and black races That I am not, nor ever have been, in favor of making voters or jurors of negroes, nor of qualifying them to hold office, nor to intermarry with white people; and I will say in addition to this that there is a physical difference between the white and black races which I believe will for ever forbid the two races living together on terms of social and political equality. And inasmuch as they cannot so live, while they do remain together there must be the position of superior and inferior, and I, as much as any other man, am in favor of having the superior position assigned to the white race. I say upon this occasion I do not perceive that because the white man is to have the superior position the negro should be denied everything." Lincoln to Douglas Ottowa, IL 21 Aug 1858

Maybe this does it for you
"What I would most desire would be the separation of the white and black races." Lincoln - Springfield, IL; 17 July 1858

But hey, lets be fair about this. Lincoln didn't like Mexicans either:
"the people of Mexico are most decidedly a race of mongrels. I understand that there is not more than one person there out of eight who is pure white."

Oh yeah. He was a human rights champion all right....
Lets not even get started on the topic of Lincoln's support of the IL state constitution that forbade blacks from moving there, or the reason he wanted to deport blacks to begin with, which was to "reduce the supply of black labor by colonizing the black laborer out of the country, and by precisely so much you increase the demand for and wages of white labor" Lincoln's State of the Union address, Dec 1862

You will never change the mind of a Yankee Southern hater.

The Confederate battle flag today has nothing to do with race. It stands for a romantic image of a chivalric, honor-based culture that was driven down by the brute force of crass Yankee capitalism, which was better at manufacturing weapons than using them, and that shortly thereafter gave us the Grant administration and the Gilded Age.(WIt stands for a proud military heritage shared by both blacks and whites in the South. The reverence for tradition and pride in historical antecedents are precisely what make Southerners, black and white, such stalwart patriots. The flag under which slavery flourished for almost a century is good. But the flag under which slavery existed for less than a decade is bad? Ann Coulter

I’m The South

I’m the Little Rock of Arkansas
The Smokey Mountains and a cross-cut saw
Louisiana cooking and a watermelon vine
I’m a tall Georgia Pine
And Georgia’s on my mind
I’m the Tennessee Waltz and all night sings
The Florida sun and Silver Springs
I’m Huck and Tom and the old folks at home
I’m Clingman’s Dome

Why, I’m the stars that fell on Alabam
I’m coffee in the morning
And an old smoked ham
I’m a Carolina moon, a dusty delta dawn
Magnolias in Bloom
I’m a thoroughbred grazing on Kentucky bluegrass
I’m coon hounds, bird dogs and tea of sassafras
I’m the Mississippi River as it rounds the bend
I’m Gone With The Wind
Y’all come back again

I thank the Lord both night and morn
that He saw fit to have me born in Dixie
Look Away... look away...
Look away Dixie Land

I’m hanging moss on a live oak tree
Southern fried chicken and a cypress knee
Why, I’m the birth of the blues in New Orleans
The land of dreams
And I’m a trout a’ jumpin’ in a cool clear stream
I’m an antebellum home on the Natchez Trace
A rusty plow on the old home place
Azaleas a’ blooming in beautifu Mobile
I’m the Virgina Reel
Derby Day in Louisville

That Southern hospitality in Charleston
and in Raleigh
A Georgia peach, a cotton patch, Miami Beach
I’m Dan’el Boon and Robert E. Lee
The Seminole, Choctaw and the Cherokee
Well, I’m everything good
you’ve ever dreamed about
Hush your mouth

I Am The South

Do you not know the difference between voluntary colonization, which Lincoln supported, and forced deportation, which was claimed? .....That is a far cry from rounding them up, forcing them on ships and sending them back the same way their ancestors got here. As was claimed Lincoln advocated.
Who claimed this? I should have addressed this in my previous post, but please look through my posts and show me where i "claimed" Lincoln advocated this. In fact, I simply pointed out he was in favor state funded deportation. You read words that were not there. Am I now your straw man as well?
