A Muslim activist and lawyer in the U.K. is calling on Muslims worldwide to burn U.S. flags outside American embassies on Sept. 11. The activist, according to CBS news, is considered a radical, and says his international burn the Stars and Stripes Day is in direct retaliation against pastor Terry Jones and his Florida churchs plan to burn the Koran on the same day.
The man calling for the mass burning is Anjem Choudary, former leader of the banned hardline Islamic group Islam4UK. According to CBS, Choudary regularly organizes demonstrations in Britain calling for the implementation of Islamic law.
The report also says that the State Department has issued a warning to all embassies to prepare for possible backlash should the Koran burning take place as planned on Saturday.
General David Petraeus, Secretary of State Hilary Clinton, and others have spoken out against the planned Koran burning. Petraeus has said that it will endanger U.S. troops abroad, while Glenn Beck has said that burning the Koran is like burning the flag or the Bible.

When Muslims can feel the same way about burning the koran, or mocking mohammed, then they are ready to take the first steps into the modern world.
...calling on Muslims worldwide to burn U.S. flags outside American embassies on Sept. 11.
There are at least a few things that western countries can do to combat people like Anjem Choudary. But, seems that so far we & our govts have failed to do so. Laws in western countries vary, but, for example, I think most have "sedition" laws which could be updated & enacted to their full effect.
A problem is that we in the West continue to be accommodating towards Islam & Muslims because Islam has a religious status, and we have "freedom of religion" laws in the West. The more we accommodate, the more demanding the muslims will be.
I don't think there is a single or a simple solution to this problem. We need a comprehensive strategy at different levels (not just tactics), not only to deal with anyone or any group such as Anjem Choudary, but with the wider Islam issue. However, there is also something called "the art of provocation". People/groups such as Anjem Choudary are good at exercising that. Personally, I don't think getting into tit for tat actions is a strategy... it really depends on what we expect to achieve by, say, burning the Koran?
The whole muslim/Islam issue is a real problem, and we need real & more long term, effective solutions for it. Especially & considering the presence of the U.S. & western troops in many muslim countries. Not to mention the presence of Christian civilians, churches, and many western outlets in the muslim world. On this note, we know muslim mentality & sensitivity towards their religion & the Koran - this is a worldwide muslim attitude. Are non-muslims willing & able to respond accordingly? I don't know, am just outlining some thoughts & posing some questions.
Btw, this idea about the Koran is not new. I came across this Iranian site about 2 yrs ago, check it out.
BFD. They do it every day. Tomorrow, I burn their book in my backyard.
Oh wow, as if we have never seen that before.
