AOL teaming up with Ellen DeGeneres online

NEW YORK (AP) -- AOL is adding talk-show host Ellen DeGeneres to its family of Web properties as it looks for ways to draw more people to its sites.

The company will begin sharing traffic, content and promotions with the website for "The Ellen DeGeneres Show," starting Tuesday. AOL sites such as KitchenDaily.com and Popeater will promote DeGeneres and provide links to her site, and vice versa.

No money is changing hands. The company that produces the TV show, Telepictures Productions, will still have control over what appears on the show's site and will sell the ad space next to it.

The deal is part of a strategy at AOL Inc. of hitching itself to established brands that complement its own original content. That, AOL hopes, will help it replace revenue from its shrinking dial-up Internet business with online advertising sales.

A looser has-been company teams up with a looser has-been star. I wonder what type of people they will attract?

I am on AOL and I am not interested in Ellen...where is the complaint department? ha ha! I thought Steve Case was a liberal but current leadership of AOL is just as bad...

Good idea. Teaming up the most annoying online provider with the most annoying...lesbian in show business.

Can they become the exclusive distributor of The View as well?

>>> a looser has-been star.

Having a show with about four million viewers daily that has won 31 Daytime Emmy Awards, and comes in at 17th place on the Forbes list of the wealthiest female performers. That to you is a “looser” has been? wow.

When you consider the fine folks who a) still use AOL and b) watch and enjoy Ellen then this is a shrewd marketing move.

Unfortunately, anyone falling into that category is probably making minimum wage and/or receiving public assistance with scant discretionary income.

I cancelled AOL years ago when I discovered they fired two of their employees because someone told their supervisor that they had firearms in their car. They were going to the range after work and AOL had Zero policy on firearms on property.

I know there will be negative things about Ellen on this thread, but I like her. I think she’s very funny.

Ellen Degenerate was a 3rd rate comedian with a low rated sitcom when she “came out of the closet”. Shortly after that her show was canceled, the msm blamed “homophobia” and never mentioned that her show was well on the way too cancellation before she came out. Then they industry bent over backwards to give her a talk show and revive her career as the “gay Oprah”. I’ve had the misfortune of having to watch her show a couple times when I was trapped in the doctors waiting room. All I can say is that if I wanted to watch a flat chested, horse faced dyke dance around, tell awful jokes, and give boring interviews. I would replay the Kagan Supreme Court hearings.

Ellen Degenerate? Just another reason to never use AOL.

While I do not approve of her lifestyle and I didn’t like her ramming the gay issue down our throats on her sitcom. I still like Ellen’s humor and I think she’s a nice person.

Well, I don't know about Ellen Degenerate, but the 4 million fat housewives, welfare bums and other solid Obama voting blocks that watch the dancin' dyke every day certainly fit the definition of "looser"...

AOL is desperately trying to change their marketing image ... so they pick Ellen DeGenerant? Well, there’s some “change” you can believe in.

Ellen’s gay. To many on FR, that means you’re not allowed to respect anything about her or her work.

I was with AOL for 2 years after I first started using the Internet. That was in the mid 90s.

Any ISP that has gay rooms plastered all over the place, yet trying to find the gun chat was a test of patience. Not my cup of tea.

I still have a Dial Up ISP but no way would it be AOL.
