I always find it repugnant when Barack Obama pretends to articulate and apply America’s moral values. As products of Saul Alinsky’s finishing school for Marxist protégés, Obama and his crew have no respect for the self-evident truths in which those values originate. It’s not that they have no use for them. On the contrary, they refer to them only when they are useful for ideological warfare.
Obama’s reference yesterday to religious tolerance, and America’s respect for religious freedom, is a case in point. According to an AP report, he “is weighing in forcefully on the mosque near ground zero, saying a nation built on religious freedom must allow it….While insisting that the place where the twin towers once stood was indeed “hallowed ground,” Obama said that the proper way to honor it was to apply American values.”
By taking this stance Obama chooses to show no regard for the view that the proposed mosque is intended as a monument to Islamic terrorism’s greatest victory. He chooses simply to brush aside the possibility that it is being erected in the same spirit that led Palestinians, and many other admirers of the 9-11 terrorist assailants to dance in the streets with jubilation at their devastating assault on the United States. He therefore seeks to invoke America’ values in order to embarrass and silence those who seek to defend America’s security against what surely could be an insidious symbol, used to rally and mesmerize new recruits for future attacks against us.
Obama cannot plead ignorance of Muslim history and tradition. He knows that it was the practice of Muslim conquerors to erect places of Islamic worship on or near the sites of their decisive victories (preferably transforming or in place of something held in reverence by the conquered people.) All I have is Ground Zero. On the morning of Tuesday, Sept. 11, 2001, I watched as terrorists slammed United Flight 175 into the South Tower of the World Trade Center, 18 minutes after their accomplices on another hijacked plane hit the North Tower. My mother was on the flight. I witnessed her murder on live television. I still cannot fully comprehend those images. In that moment, I died as well. I carry a hole in my heart that will never be filled. 
Hah.
It may not be exactly on the spot, but it’s close enough to achieve their goal of sticking it to this country.

Barack Obama does not understand you. He does not understand the plight of the average American, especially not the average New Yorker. With Bill Clinton it was, “I feel your pain.” With Barack Obama it’s “What pain?” Clinton at least pretended to care about the average American, in fact he was a master of the discipline. Obama doesn’t even care to explore it, because he has no need for compassion.
The latest example of this –- his support for the Ground Zero mosque. Let’s not forget something that has apparently slipped Obama’s mind. On September 11th, 2001 members of Al Qaeda savagely attacked this country, and most severely, the World Trade Center in New York City. Thousands of Americans died that day, many of them heroic firefighters and policemen who rushed into burning, collapsing buildings to save their fellow man.
The construction of a mosque so close to the scene of the crime is insensitive, to say the least, and will be a constant reminder to everyone who passes by it, on their way to or from Ground Zero, of the horror of that day. What’s more, it will be a lightning rod for emotion among those who still bear the scars of lost loved ones, a clear magnet for anger, frustration and vandalism.
The argument of Obama and New York’s Mayor Michael Bloomberg has been that the mosque’s construction is about freedom of religion. This is not about freedom of religion. This is about respect for the dead.
Sally Regenhard, whose firefighter son was killed at the World Trade Center, said the president had failed to understand the issue.
“As an Obama supporter, I really feel that he’s lost sight of the germane issue, which is not about freedom of religion,” she said. “It’s about a gross lack of sensitivity to the 9/11 families and to the people who were lost.”
To Sally all Obama can offer is to say that the “9/11 attacks were a deeply traumatic event,” but he’s missing the broader point.
It’s not because Americans are traumatized that they object to a mosque being built at Ground Zero. It’s that Ground Zero is the site of an attack on the country that was both violent and symbolic. Obama only addresses the violence, but not the symbolism. The Twin Towers were the target because they were a symbol of America’s sinfulness in the minds of al Qaeda. In another one of Professor Obama’s “teachable moments,” he does not understand that in fact he is not the teacher, but the student. It’s a sad day when the American public has to teach our President, the Commander-in-Chief, what the symbolism of the most awful attack on this country really means to its people.
Part of one of the planes tore through this building, though. So, it IS part of Ground Zero.

I take him seriously. Anyone who has been to one of his speakin’s, like him or not, takes him seriously too. Democrats hate him, so the ‘crackpot’, ‘lunatic’, ‘religious zealot’ meme comes out whenever he does. They perfected the ‘Palin treatment’ on Alan Keyes long before they ever heard of Sarah.
(A) He is viciously, ideologically, and pathologically incompetent. And, he does not give a rat's ass what you think.
(b) He may well be a person of some cunning, but if not actually stupid, which is possible, he is woefully ignorant and VERY uneducated.
His entire education consisted of Social Gabfest Seminars, in which one was rewarded for parroting the Marxist party line, not reading, writing, or thinking. Unless I miss my guess, we are dealing with a low-SAT kid who has been carefully stage-managed every foot of the Affirmative Action way. He cannot read. He cannot write (without Bill Ayers). He is told what to say on a teleprompter and what to do. He is a perfect tool.
E.G. "Columbia." This jerk didn't go to Columbia College. He went to Columbia General Studies. Admission requirements: a checkbook and a heartbeat.
