The New York Times, wasted no time, in picking up the bucket full of obama’s slop. They went from zero to sixty in two seconds flat. As soon as, “The One”, chides Europeans’ for proposing cuts in spending, the slimes runs a piece showing the supposed horror of such actions.

It’s not a safety net.

It has become a hammock.

That’s the problem.

When she took a job with this city as a purchasing agent 12 years ago, she knew her salary would be low. But the income would be reliable. She could expect steady raises, manageable hours, six weeks of vacation, a good pension and the usual benefits — from free health care to subsidized housing.

She should apply for a job with the government in the US, not only would she would get all the benefits mentioned, her salary would be HIGHER than the same job in the private sector.

I'm really worried of what will happen when the time comes that these type of cuts have to be made in the US. European public workers may have an entitlement mentality, but US public workers have a militant entitlement mentality that is backed up by Pubic Union muscle. I have a feeling the riots that ensue will make Greece look like a playground fight. I have worked with public employees in the past, and if their pay and benefits were cut, they would either refuse to come to work at all, or come to work and do everything in their power to sabotage and slow down the agency they work for. Their entitlement mentality is scary.

Pretty standard in Europe. In America it’s the other extreme, where new hires only get one week (I turned down a job in SC because they wouldn’t give me a second week even though I was willing to take a 2% lower salary in exchange). In France everyone gets 5 weeks paid vacation, which is why unemployment there is 15% in boom times, 20% during recessions. I think we have a reasonable deal in Canada, where everyone starts with two weeks and extra weeks are earned (although I cringed at my layoff when I was a year and a half away from getting five weeks).

I’ve seen it, and it’s gorgeous. I’m fortunate enough to have a sister who lives on the outskirts of Paris with a view of Eiffel, the Champs and the Arc de Triomphe from her living room. I had a freeload with a terrific view, which made it affordable as Paris is a VERY expensive place to live.

What, exactly, did the City get in return?

Nothing surprises me about the NYT. I witnessed the madness here in the streets of the city this weekend and the biggest criticism from the natives here in Toronto is that the police response to the thugs was TOO DAMN SLOW. The NYT headline was about the Toronto cops being too “heavy-handed” in their response to the terrorists.

I want to visit Goa India.

The place is swarming with euros on vacation.

Me? I have to rely on flopping at my bothers house and its still quite the expense.

I could visit Cypress but it would be a working thing.

The Euros are all just doing the beach on the gubmint dime.

Went to France once but that was on a submarine.

I dont get no real vacations hardly never

She still has a job pseudo government makework job, unlike many others. They have become so dependent on government that they fail to realize what they have compared to others.

That happened in Ontario in the 1990s. The government responded by letting them strike, and letting the strike drag on. The public clued in pretty quick as not only did the strike have zero effect on our daily lives, it saved a fortune in payroll costs. The workers settled six weeks later on the original offer, and the Treasury saved millions.

Spent a lot of time in Hawaii too, but that was mostly working stuff.

I think my last 2 trips to maine were as close to a real vacation as you could get. And that would not have been possible if it werent for FReeper hospitality.

The socialist Ponzi Felony runs out of money in infertile Spain.

Like most of Europe, Spain murders its babies and is a dying nation. There are no more workers/taxpayers to pay for socialism.

It’s been a while for me too. My last real vacation was a one-week visit to friends in Augusta, GA. Being budget-wise due to job loss, my getaway now is to load the camping gear on my bike for a 3-5 day road trip, staying at provincial and state parks. The economy north of the border has improved to the point, though, where I may not have time for that- I’ve taken a part-time job and I’ve started a business. Every company here is hiring and spending right now :-)

Yup. This year has been just long weekend jaunts.

Good to hear the economy is clicking up there.

Best trip to Ga was when I was a lad in the Navy.
Did the chatahoochie river on rafts, had some amazing breakfasts and saw Blackfoot at a party on a farm in Cobb co.

All thanks to gracious friends. Lord knows I was po at the time.

Spain curbs ‘millionaire’ pay for air traffic controllers (incredible salaries)
Breitbart.com

According to figures released by the transport ministry last week, 135 controllers earned more than 600,000 euros (830,000 US dollars) per year while 713 earned between 360,000 and 540,000 euros.

By comparison Prime Minister Jose Luis Rodriguez Zapatero earns just under 92,000 euros a year while the average salary in Spain is just over 18,000 euros per year, according to government figures.
In addition, the controllers can retire at the age of 52.

(Excerpt) Read more at breitbart.com ...

Incredible.

The Fall of the West. If they make nearly a MILLION DOLLARS a year while they are working, then retire at 52, don’t they get $30,000,000 in retirement pay, if they live long enough??? Total of $50,000,000 each???

What country could ever support this?

Oh yeah: Spain,

US, UAW, Obama, SEIU, they all want to try!!!

British Tenements

Spanish public housing

Not a fair comparison. The British housing is probably built in Victorian times and the picture was probably taken in the 50’s.

The Spanish housing picture is a much more modern design and a much later picture, check out the cars in the street.

You need pictures taken in the same era for a comparison...:^)

In planning a trip coming up, it’s actually cheaper to visit Paris than it would be to visit most of the major U.S. cities- D.C., NY, San Francisco, etc. I don’t think I could even stay in a nice part of Seattle for what we will be paying for our lodging in Paris. I am excited. We are going to Normandy, too- a must for me. A must for my girls.

And my car is paid for- my mortgage is low- house is worth more than market value. I don’t work for the government. I have health issues that may prevent me from making it to retirement or being able to enjoy it, so I am trying to get the most out of life and making memories with my husband and children, now.
