NBC News' Savannah Guthrie reports this morning that Gen. Stanley McChrystal is being called to Washington for a meeting at the White House tomorrow in the wake of a Rolling Stone article that has exposed McChrystal and his staff as mockingly disrespectful of their civilian overseers, including their commander-in-chief President Barack Obama.
Guthrie posted at Twitter:
McChrystal has been ordered to the Sit Rom tomorrow to explain his stmts criticizing admin officials to Rolling Stone to POTUS in person 15 minutes ago via UberTwitter
Guthrie added: "McChrystal has been calling around town apologizing to officials."
The Atlantic reported late last night that McChrystal had been called by numerous top officials last night:
Within hours after today's Rolling Stone story broke, McChrystal was called by the White House, the Secretary of Defense, and the Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff. They were not happy.
The Atlantic also notes that McChrystal never completely had the trust of the Obama administration:
Even though McChrystal voted for Obama and told him so during their first meeting, he sensed that a number of senior White House aides didn't really believe that the former commander of the military's special missions unit during the Bush-Cheney years was suddenly on their side. National Security Adviser James Jones, who is a bit of cipher to McChrystal's team, may or may not have been one of these aides. No one in the West Wing bought all that liberal internet chatter about JSOC's alleged crimes -- but no one really didn't buy it, either.
If our voluntary troops are willing to risk their lives on the front line - officers should be willing to risk their careers with truth or resign with honor.
I don’t really know much about it, but didn’t the military get rid of Michael Yon in Afghanistan because he was revealing the problems with the current ROE?
Yon has been a credible voice in Iraq - which the military desperately needed, given the false reports and lying AP that sabotaged all their operations there. For the military to get rid of him in Afghanistan seems like shooting themselves in the foot. I guess anything to crush “dissent”.
Wait....why fire a press aide? Did McCrystal say what’s in the article or not?
Or mabye his strategy is to get home and out of the idiot’s way.

I would hope our allies see that this guy is done after these next elections and hold-on until we will elect a real American in 2012. There is not much damage a lame-duck can do other than write Exec Orders and make recess appointments, both of which can be neutralized.
The media will fall out of love with him as soon as a few people like Clintons finally come to their senses and start to grumble behind the scenes after the election dust settles.
Historic allies like GB, Israel, Japan, Australia understand this. Convenient allies, not so much.

Actually, I was thinking a bit more about this and I wonder if there hasn’t been a strategy to get McChrystal into an untenable position since the very beginning. Does anybody remember the “leak” of his report last year? That practically did him in at the time.
It seems to me that he’s been very accomodating to Obama and Biden, but obviously, not enough.
I hope McChrystal is canned and I hope Fox News has the good sense to see the man for the loon he is.
The downside here is that an even more politically correct Onadabot will replace him. That is nothing but bad news for the soldiers under his command.
What the hell was McChrystal thinking when he allowed himself to be interviewed by Rolling Stone rag anyway?

Obama throws everyone under the bus. We saw it during the campaign. We see it with BP (with whom Obama has had a very close relationship). Now we'll see it with McChrystal. Doesn't matter how much support someone has given Obama in the past -- he's always eager to throw his friends to the wolves.

I think Israel may be waiting it out, but I also think that Turkey, Iran, and Syria know darn good and well that this is the time to act on what they’ve wanted forever. If I’m not mistaken, we’re not even selling parts to the Israelis so they can maintain the weapons we’ve sold them. We’re denying them airspace to deal with Iran.
Obama has allegedly told the Egyptian Ambassador that he is a Muslim who supports the Muslim agenda (which I would understand to mean Sharia and the destruction of Israel and America - the only two items all Muslims agree on).
I can see GB, Israel, etc waiting it out as much as possible. But I can also see emboldened enemies. North Korea is another one. These people respond to weakness and they’ve got to know there’s going to be a huge backlash in 2012. If they’re serious about their agenda (and they are) they will strike before 2012. What happens if we lose Israel? The entire Middle East will be a boiling pot.
The stakes are high. I don’t know if we can afford to wait it out.
That's a nice sentiment. But at some point of incompetence and delusion does it not become relevant? Somebody has to admit that the emperor has no clothes.
